Mojtaba Khamenei hasn’t been seen in public since February 28, when his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in an airstrike. Nevertheless, Mojtaba was appointed supreme leader on March 8, and a large cardboard cutout of him was presented at a ceremony to celebrate his ascendancy to the top spot.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s officials lie as easily as they breathe, so there’s no telling if Mojtaba is alive or dead. This latest news about the mural featuring him alongside the “martyrs” does, however, strongly suggest that he is deceased.
“Mojtaba Khamenei is dead? New mural unveiled in Mashhad shows Iran’s Ayatollah among leaders killed in war with US,” WION News, April 26, 2026:
A newly unveiled mural in the Iranian city of Mashhad has triggered fresh questions over the fate of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, after his portrait appeared alongside figures believed to have been killed during recent US-Israeli airstrikes.

He may or may not be dead, but I do think that the Mashhad mural was hurriedly done by rogue islamic factions that control that city. At any rate, after Israel bombed the “council of experts”, power in the islamic regime has quietly transferred from the ayatollahs to the IRGC
It’s now up to the Iranian people to overthrow them. They can’t wait for the IRGC to be completely disarmed, b’cos that can’t happen w/o boots-on-the-ground in Iran – be it either Israeli or American. This is something that the Iranians need to do, and it won’t be completely bloodless. The Israelis can back them from the air w/ drone attacks, but gaining territory is something only the “Iranian Immortal Guards” (as the anti-islamic militias in Iran are known as) can do, since they would be the boots on the ground. If they need to be armed, find a way of quickly arming them and arm them, but they have to be the ones to do the job!

Yes.
The United States / Israel certainly can find some way to do this…

I’ve been saying since Israel took out Ali Khamenei that Mojtaba Khamenei was also killed. His wife and children were there and were admittedly killed. The Iranian story was that Mojtaba Khamenei took a stroll outside and was severely injured but not killed. Israel hit the compound with overkill, using 30 bombs, many more bombs than they needed; they probably needed only one or two. If Mojtaba Khamenei were within a radius of 300 yards, he would’ve been shredded by the blast waves. A 2000 lb. bomb has a kill radius of about 400 yards. Looking at the released satellite images, the blast was not survivable for anyone inside or outside the compound.

What is believed is that Mojtaba Khamenei was badly enough injured that he is in a coma: they haven’t confirmed that he’s dead. Although another theory that did the rounds was that given how the Israelis wiped out most of the “Council of Experts”, they decided to name a dead leader rather than a living one, so that there was no way the Israelis could do him any more damage
That only works to a point. Today, I was watching the Iran coverage on “The Iran Revolution” where they said that one media outlet Tasnim (allegedly affiliated w/ Speaker Ghalibaf) editorial said demanding the United States lift all sanctions or agree to a comprehensive ceasefire with Iran’s armed allies in the region amounted to unrealistic expectations like a “magic beanstalk.” This was in reference to Mojtaba’s “red lines” demanding that the US completely lift sanctions and indemnify Iran for the war damages so far – which is what Tasnim openly mocked
Already, the bulk of Iranians don’t care what’s going on within the regime, except that they want it gone. But this new rift b/w Mojtaba supporters and those who haven’t put meth in their hookah pipes is within the regime! As a result, sooner or later, the Mojtaba supporters will have to openly show what’s the real status of the supreme leader, or just let even that faction conclude that he’s incurably incapacitated, and that nothing that’s stated to be from him is worth the paper it’s written on. It’ll be funny seeing a civil war break out within the islamic regime, which should accelerate its downfall

If not worm and bacteria food already, why has he not objected to the claims that he is dead? Why has he not vowed that the killers of his father and family will soon be napping in the dirt?
