New York Times makes the news in Nigeria for downplaying jihad massacre of Christians

Christians are suffering at the hands of jihadists in Nigeria, but what does the New York Times care?

The New York Times heavily supported Black Lives Matter, boasting that “it may be the largest movement in US history.” Does the Times really care about black lives, or only about certain black lives, particularly when blacks are used as objects to advance the progressive agenda. Activist leftist media, along with its political overlords, are skillful at manipulating identity politics.

Shameful doesn’t begin to describe the New York Times’s underplaying of the massacre of Christians, as reported below by Abdul Mahmud in the Nigerian publication, People’s Gazette Nigeria.

Again: these headlines are in January alone.

Leftists are notorious for turning their backs on the victims of black-on-black violence, or if the victim is a black Christian whom a Muslim Arab has persecuted. What matters to the Times is one shooting of a criminal black person by American police. In such an event, leftist media predictably and promptly churn out a stream of propaganda to fuel further race divisions in America.

“New York Times attempts to downplay Nigerian Christian massacre,” by Abdul Mahmud, People’s Gazette Nigeria, January 26, 2026:

For more than a decade, the persecution of Christians in northern Nigeria unfolded in full public view. From around 2010, the pattern became unmistakable. Churches were attacked. Christian communities were overrun. Villages were emptied. Worshippers were slaughtered in spaces once thought sacred. Survivors spoke with painful consistency. Names of places recurred with dreadful familiarity. What changed was the stubborn refusal by influential sections of the media and parts of the human rights community to describe these events for what they were. Violence that bore the clear marks of religious targeting was persistently flattened into the language of farmers-herders clashes, a phrase that drained the blood from reality and replaced it with absurdity and abstraction.

The narrative wasn’t innocent. It was carefully cultivated at home and repeatedly exported abroad. Several activists embarked on trips to the United States, briefing think tanks, policymakers, and advocacy groups with a story that denied any systematic persecution of Christians. According to them, Nigeria was merely suffering from climate stress, population pressure, and competition over land. Religion, they insisted, was a mere red herring.

The effect was devastating. Victims were rendered faceless. Perpetrators were dissolved into sociological fault lines. Moral responsibility disappeared into jargon. The presidency of Goodluck Jonathan took its cue from this framing and reinforced it. Official statements echoed the language of balance and communal tension even as massacres mounted. But the underlying refusal to name persecution remained intact. What could not be named could not be confronted. What could not be confronted metastasised. Under General Muhammadu Buhari, this denial acquired a sharper edge….

  2. Until Christians realize that they need to step-up and defend themselves and the Faith from the moslems that would do them violence the deaths and destruction will continue unabated. For every Christian murdered, two moslems must meet the same fate. For every Christian church defiled or put to the torch, two mosques. It’s time that it is made perfectly clear to moslems that committing violence against Christians will have consequences. Serious consequences. Only then will the violence stop. Only then will Christians be able to practice their Faith safely. Unless and until this happens Christianity will be greatly reduced by the end of this decade and will be extinct by the end of the next.

    • Precisely! The meek won’t inherit the earth. Turning the other cheek, or loving the enemy is no survival strategy. They need to take a page out of the islamic handbook and fight muslims the same manner. Don’t bother about what Pope Leo or King Charles or Arch patriarch Kirill say about it

      • Yeah, I’ve never been a big fan about the meek inheriting the Earth. The meek should be dealt with in a civilized way but I don’t want them in charge. I also appreciate that little known variation on a passage from Psalms, to wit, yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil ’cause I’m the meanest son of a bitch in the valley.

      • Christians *know* the One Who is Master and whose commandments must be obeyed as closely as possible by each individual.

        Jesus told those who were listening to Him, “Count the cost.”

        No one who wishes to remain a Christian should listen to anyone other than Christ when it comes to how to live in these dangerous times when the persecution about which Jesus warned is happening.
        He did not say to pick up weapons and go slaughtering.

  3. As far Truth in the media…

    A story is going around about a couple with six children getting caught up in the riots in MN. The couple claim they were just driving home when they were blocked in, and then an ICE agent threw a tear gas canister under their vehicle. They have made all of the rounds telling their story and have a funding of nearly 200 thousand for their kids who were supposedly made sick.
    However, video footage from at least two people shows the couple in the crowds for nearly an hour, without their kids; and the woman is shouting profanities and egging on the obstruction of LE.

    But, no Christian from Nigeria would be invited to any of those *news* outlets to tell what is **really** happening in Nigeria.

    Jesus said, “The world hates you because it has hated me.”
