The International Association of Genocide Scholars has overwhelmingly supported a resolution accusing Israel of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. “Israel committing genocide in Gaza, world’s top scholars on the crime say,” by Lorenzo Tondo, Guardian, September 1, 2025:
The world’s leading genocide scholars’ association has backed a resolution stating that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of the crime.
Out of the International Association of Genocide Scholars’s (IAGS) 500 members, 28% took part in the vote. Of those who voted, 86% supported the resolution. The resolution states that “Israel’s policies and actions in Gaza meet the legal definition of genocide in article II of the United Nations convention for the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide (1948).”
The three-page resolution passed by the body calls on Israel to “immediately cease all acts that constitute genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza, including deliberate attacks against and killing of civilians including children; starvation; deprivation of humanitarian aid, water, fuel, and other items essential to the survival of the population; sexual and reproductive violence; and forced displacement of the population.”
The resolution said the IAGS recognised that “since the horrific Hamas-led attack of 7 October 2023, which itself constitutes international crimes”, the government of Israel had engaged in systematic and widespread crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide, including indiscriminate and deliberate attacks against the civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, homes and commercial buildings, of Gaza.
Melanie O’Brien, the IAGS president and a professor of international law at the University of Western Australia, said the resolution was “a definitive statement from experts in the field of genocide studies that what is going on on the ground in Gaza is genocide”.
Founded in 1994, the IAGS has a broad membership that includes academics, historians, political scientists and human rights activists.
Oxford defines the term genocide as “the deliberate attempt to eradicate a people (often a national, ethnic, or religious group).”
Israel is obviously not attempting to do any such thing. It is attempting to eradicate the threat of Hamas (Islamic Resistance movement–Harakat al-Muqāwama al-Islāmiyya), a brutal jihadist group that aims to annihilate Israel. Hamas enjoys backing and/or material support from Muslim countries including Iran and Muslim Brotherhood-supporting Turkey and Qatar. Hamas is intentionally hiding among the Gaza population, which triggered the humanitarian disaster, yet international “experts” are intentionally ignoring this fact. The question is why?
86% of the International Association of Genocide Scholars backed the anti-Israel resolution, but what about the remaining 14%? That is still a deplorably low number, considering that these people are ostensibly regarded as “scholars” in the study of genocide. Among the 14% is Sara Brown, a genocide scholar herself, who has served with the Association for over a decade. She highlighted a concern that the association “typically discusses controversial resolutions in a virtual town hall that allows members to discuss the measures. For the Israel resolution, the association’s leadership declined to hold a discussion.” She added: “The content of the resolution and the way it was forced through speak to an embarrassing absence of professionalism.”
The Times of Israel added:
Among her qualms with the resolution are that it cites organizations that have reinterpreted the definition of genocide so that it applies to Israel, such as Amnesty International. The group also cited UN special investigator for the Palestinians Francesca Albanese, who has a history of antisemitism and extremist rhetoric, such as denying Israel’s right to self defense.

Emails show that the anti-Israel vote of the International Association of Genocide Scholars was a setup. Last month, the association’s leadership said there would be a town hall discussion to address the resolution on Israel, as is customarily done, but then it “backtracked days later, citing a vote by the association’s executive board.”
It’s apparent that anti-Israel, antisemitic influence has compromised the integrity of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, to the point where its so-called scholars cannot be trusted. In the meantime, they have added to the propaganda gang-up on the State of Israel, as the Jewish state continues to fight the jihad for its very existence.

The IAGS has 500 membres. Only 140 of them voted. The other 360 did not vote to declare Israel guilty of genocide. Presumably, they did not believe Israel was guilty, but wanting to avoid trouble from the vindictive anti-Israel marchers and mobs now bestriding our giddy globe, they chose not to declare themselves. Of the 140 who did vote, exactly 120 voted to call Israel “guilty of genocide.”
In sum, the headlines for this story should read “only 120 of the 500 members of the IAGS believe that Israel is guilty of genocide.”

In the newspaper The Epoch Times April 3-6, 2024, A14 the reader in informed about “Civilian Casualties.” For it reads, “Israel risks the lives of its soldiers to prevent civilians deaths. Hamas risks the lives of civilians to prevent terrorist’s death. Israel considers it a failure, and Hamas considers it a globally advantageous when civilians die than its soldiers.”

1/ Best-guess numbers of Christian Armenians, Christian Assyrians, and Christian Greeks in the Ottoman Empire (specifically, within Anatolia and nearby, now ‘Turkey’) BEFORE mass-murders began in the 1890s, peaking in 1915-1917; and best-guess numbers of said ethnicities there and anywhere else a/ immediately afterward and b/ today, 100+ years later.
One site gives a rough estimate: 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915; of whom between 664,000 and 1.2 million were murdered, either by direct slaughter, or by gross mistreatment including death marches. (And tens of thousands of Armenian minor children were seized, enslaved and forcibly ‘converted’ to Islam.. which puts the lie to any claim that it was about ‘ethnicity’ as such, Turk vs Armenian.. it was an ideologically-based annihilation, Muslims waging jihad against a vulnerable non-Islamic community).
