Here’s one example of how a trade war between Canada and the US would not have been beneficial to US interests, nor to our continent in general.

“It appears that the new U.S. administration has begun to use tariffs as a powerful policy tool following the elections…In response to such retaliatory measures, we will continue our efforts to protect our country’s interests and achieve our goals.”
I stated previously that our continent faces common enemies. Although Turkey belongs to NATO, it is hostile to Israel, and its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aims for a revived Ottoman Empire with himself as caliph. He’s also responsible for the rise of the al-Qaeda offshoot, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), in Syria, and of its leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani (a.k.a. Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa). Turkey likewise seeks to destroy the Kurds.
It is good that Trump’s tariff threat is now paused for 30 days.
The ever watching Red-Green-axis and the jihadists are constantly waiting for opportune moments to strike.

As David Boyajian noted yesterday, Turkey is a major problem, and President Trump should start recognizing that and distancing himself from that regime. Not only are they anti-Israel, they are a threat to others around them – Greece, Armenia, Cyprus, the Kurds and even Arab states, since they now have the muslim brotherhood at their beck & call. They are an ally of Qatar, are the new hosts of Hamas leaders and have much bigger & more dangerous geopolitical ambitions than Russia
Somehow, I doubt that tariffs will be an effective tool against a country that values both jihad, as well as its Ottoman revanchist ambitions

Tariffs are not new. People know how they work. They don’t “drive up prices”, but instead shift exchange rates. Thanks to the Bank of International Settlements (BIS), America has a negative trade balance with most countries. It would be completely ignorant (or stupid) of us to not use tariffs as a club. It is a way of taking back some of what the BIS has stolen.
