UK: David Cameron’s deep ties to China draw scrutiny as Sunak appoints him foreign secretary 

China welcomed the news that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had appointed former Prime Minister David Cameron to be foreign secretary. Any Western country that receives a congratulatory message from China on the occasion of the appointment of a governing official, along with a warm welcome for the new appointee, may not be heading in the right direction. Such is the case regarding Britain.

Cameron has been busy serving China’s interests in the seven years since he left office after a failed tenure as prime minister. He left after losing the Brexit Referendum, which was driven by the UK’s bad immigration policy. Now Cameron has supposedly shelved his “outside interests” to accept his new position in the British government.

The British government is a cause of concern and even unease. As the saying goes, “something is rotten in the State of Denmark“; or in this case, Britain. Remember also that Prime Minister Sunak was never elected in the first place. He was installed in October 2022 when King Charles III invited him to form a government, succeeding the shortest serving Prime Minister ever, Liz Truss. Sunak has turned a blind eye on the illegal invasion of Britain, and just fired his home secretary, Suella Braverman, for simply noting the fact that cops are going easy on pro-Hamas protesters, but are tough on pro-Israel counter-protesters.

Braverman subsequently revealed that Sunak once made a pact with her to put on a good show for frustrated Britons who opposed open-door immigration policies, in order to win public support:

Braverman claimed that Sunak had agreed to a secret pact to introduce key measures to secure her backing during the Tory leadership contest in October 2022, against Boris Johnson, but then “betrayed” the country by failing to deliver. These included policies to cut legal immigration, override the European convention on human rights (ECHR) to stop small boats crossing the Channel

Braverman has now been replaced by James Cleverly, who said last year that gay fans should be “respectful” of Qatar during World Cup.

Britain is moving in a disturbing direction, which was further emphasized by Luke de Pulford, executive director of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China. De Pulford has said this of  Sunak’s appointment of Cameron: “It’s hard to see who wins from the appointment except Beijing.”

Britain is plagued by an invasion of unvetted, mainly Muslim migrants and a declining economy, and with national security already at risk, now communist China is in the picture as well.

David Cameron’s appointment as British foreign secretary has provoked criticism of the former premier’s warm relationship with China, a closeness that is at odds with the current skeptical stance of Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party.

Cameron famously heralded a “golden era” in relations with China when he was prime minister back in 2015, hosting President Xi Jinping on a state visit when they enjoyed a beer together and took selfies in what would later be seen as a high-point in bilateral ties….

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning congratulated the UK on choosing a new foreign secretary, adding… that both sides should “promote the healthy and stable development of China-UK relations.”

Since quitting as prime minister in 2016 after he called and lost the Brexit referendum, Cameron has been involved in various China-related initiatives, including working to set up a $1 billion UK-China investment fund aimed at supporting Xi’s flagship Belt and Road Initiative.
