Less than a day after Turkey vowed to back Sweden in NATO if the European Union accepted Turkey as a member, news comes of a potentially catastrophic deal with Turkey.
This is all about the bigger fish for Erdogan: his goal for a revived Ottoman Empire.
Dire consequences would result if Turkey joins the EU. Meanwhile, Joe Biden intends “to help Turkey acquire new F-16s,” a move about which Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez has “reservations.” “Grave concern” would be a more accurate term. Biden has already done enough in arming the Taliban. At the end of May, Biden told Turkey to allow Sweden into NATO if it wants F-16’s, but now, in addition to being armed by the U.S., Turkey is closer to joining the EU.
Sweden along with the EU should be familiar with the character and ambitions of Erdogan, who has also openly proclaimed Turkey’s support for the Taliban’s beliefs.
Turkey appears to be successfully manipulating the EU, as Western leaders continue to underestimate the threat of the global jihad. An Iran deal is also reportedly around the corner, thanks to the Biden administration.
“Sweden moves closer to NATO membership after a deal with the Turkish president,” AP, July 10, 2023:
VILNIUS, Lithuania (AP) — Sweden’s membership of NATO took a big step forward on Monday after Turkey agreed to remove one of the last major roadblocks in return for help in reviving Turkey’s own chances of joining the European Union.
At talks in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, where U.S. President Joe Biden and his NATO counterparts are meeting for a two-day summit starting Tuesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan committed to put the Nordic country’s accession protocol before Parliament “as soon as possible,” the head of NATO said.
“This is an historic day because we have a clear commitment by Turkey to submit the ratification documents to the Grand National Assembly, and to work also with the assembly to ensure ratification,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters after a series of high-stakes meetings.
Sweden’s NATO accession has been held up by objections from Turkey since last year. The Turkish parliament’s ratification of the accession protocol is one of the last steps in the process.
Stoltenberg made the announcement after talks with Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on the eve of a NATO summit in Lithuania.
”Today we took a very big step on the road toward complete ratification,” Kristersson said….
In a statement, Biden welcomed the agreement and said he will work with Turkey “on enhancing defense and deterrence in the Euro-Atlantic area. I look forward to welcoming Prime Minister Kristersson and Sweden as our 32nd NATO Ally.”
Biden’s reference to enhancing Turkey’s defense capability was a nod to Biden’s commitment to help Turkey acquire new F-16s, according to a U.S. administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment….

If Turkey does get admitted into the EU, countries like Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia and Hungary should all leave the EU, so that they can legally ban the entry of any Turks into their territory. Maybe it’s time to re-orient their countries to trading w/ each other, rather than Western Europe

How to stop ww3
You need to talk with the Russians, not ignore them.
You need to understand that Ukraine joining NATO creates a National Security problem for Russia.
You need to stop demonising Russian people.
You need to understand that NATO/WEST created this problem by expanding eastward.
so NATO/west are not the ‘good guys’.Not saying I agree with Putin/Russian- Ukraine war at all.
You need to talk to the Russians -seriously.
There is a giant bear in the Room and if you keep poking it what do you think will happen?USA is like an eagle with a broken wing pecking the bear. And the US C-in C is telling the world he is c-in-c in front of the …Pride armies? And thinks putin the war in ..Iraq.

France’s Emmanuel Macron talks to Putin every day from what I heard on 60 Minutes. The war in Ukraine still keeps going on. So what good is talking to the Russian going to do?

Problem is that both State Department and Pentagon have a vested interest in keeping the Cold War permanent. Which is why no policy was changed since 1992, after the Soviet Union came unraveled
There is a straightforward solution to this. Break the Beijing-Moscow axis. To do that, offer Russia NATO membership, and also invite w/ them Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia. This would be on condition that Moscow breaks all its security alliances w/ Beijing, and also exit SCO and BRICS.
NATO will then be far more useful, and instead of stupid missions like combating Climate Change, they can continue their mission of combating Communism by combating China, w/ whom they’ll have a direct border, unlike now. Russia can then decide how important is Donbass to it once this Western threat no longer exists

“Problem is that both State Department and Pentagon have a vested interest in keeping the Cold War permanent.” If only that was the extent.
The US government hatred of Russia is augmented by US Corporate interest in exploiting Russia’s natural resources to which it once had access when the Soviet Union collapsed. Putin imposed “nyet means nyet” on US corporate interests and many of the new Russian Oligarchs.
The recent “Biden” approval of cluster 155mm shells to Ukraine because, “Ukraine(NATO) is running out of normal 155mm shells(and has for over 2 months)”, indicates that Ukraine, contrary to US and UK government propaganda, is losing its counter-offensive and the war.
Somehow, the Russia that was “running out of everything” for the past 2 years can burn up 30-40,000 155mm shells a day, deliver brand new missiles, drones, and it’s surmised, about 50 to a 100 new tanks a month.
The only rational conclusion is Russia has moved to a wartime footing with factories and citizens working 24/7 for the war effort. That’s what happens when war touches a loved one of almost every family in a functional nation. NATO’s(US) engagement in a proxy war has created a much stronger Russian military, perhaps now capable of a direct war with NATO.

The idea that Russia can be sanctioned into submission is one that didn’t work even during the Soviet era, when they did not have a free economy. That country’s economy runs on actual products or raw materials that people want – be it oil, grain, minerals, what have you. It’s not a virtual economy propped up by virtual transactions in the cloud, so the idea that sanctions against them would work like, say, sanctions against South Africa in the 80s, were a non-starter

I am about to say something controversial When Russia invaded Ukraine we should have devoted the billions in aid, (and the materiel Biden and Milley should not have left behind in Afghanistan) and used it to do what we should have done for the last 50 years. Our response to Putin’s invasion should have been to invade Cuba and overthrow the regime. The world would have screamed and shouted but we would say “nyah, nyah nyah, if Russia can do it so could we and what are you going to do about it.” So Putin would have Ukraine along with perpetual unrest and guerilla war but we would have eliminated a major base right off our shore which is being used by Russia, China and Iran. I’d say that would have been a pretty good trade and much more beneficial to our national security.

Interesting approach. It might have been a tad longer than Grenada in 1983

What on earth has this to do with Islamist Turkey?
When I last looked they are not even a member of NATO- who cares what this awful country run by a criminal has to say?

WIKI: “Turkey has been a member of NATO since 1952, has its second largest army and is the host of the Allied Land Command headquarters. The Incirlik and Konya Airbases have both been involved in several NATO military operations since their establishment.”
Erdogan is a sly strategist intent on reviving an Empire of Islamic superiority. His latest deal is F-16s and accelerated EU membership to stop blocking Sweden’s entry to NATO.
