British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood intends to admit thousands of “Palestinian” refugees. The British government has unveiled a new plan to resettle Palestinian refugees, drawing sharp warnings from Jewish leaders who fear the program could intensify antisemitism in Britain as concerns mount over radicalization and extremist activity within immigrant populations.
During the left-wing Labour Party’s annual conference on Monday, British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced the reopening of a resettlement scheme that had been frozen two years ago, saying the program would now prioritize the most vulnerable refugees and provide them with a pathway to safety in Britain.
Under the new initiative, Palestinians and women and girls from Afghanistan are expected to make up about a quarter of those resettled.
“I know the British people have not given up on their belief that we should be compassionate, live up to our international obligations, and save the lives of those fleeing war and persecution,” Mahmood said during her speech. “But I also know this process must be capped and controlled, and communities must be ready and able to welcome those who come here.”
Why does the UK have an “international obligation” to admit “Palestinian” Arabs, so many of whom carry with them the virus of antisemitism? Why shouldn’t such people instead be sent to one or more of the existing 22 Arab states, including the fabulously rich oil states that can easily afford to support them? Why is their upkeep made a matter for the British taxpayers, already so stretched, rather than for their Arab brothers?
“This is what we can do and who we can be as we restore control to our borders, bear down on the small boat crossings, and unlock the inherent generosity of this country,” the British official continued….
The UK already has already “unlocked its inherent generosity” toward another population of Muslim migrants. These are the 654,000 Pakistanis now living in the UK; Pakistani grooming gangs have ruined the lives of a quarter-million British girls. There are a total of four million Muslims now in the UK — two million migrants, and two million children of migrants. They have contributed to a staggering rise in crimes. They are 6.5% of the total population, but constitute more than 20% of the prison population. Most of these Muslims have neither the ability, nor the desire, to integrate successfully into a society that Infidels who, all Muslims know from the Qur’an, “are the most vile of created beings,” created. Many of the Muslim migrants show a distinct lack of interest in obtaining gainful employment, preferring to live on all the benefits the British state is willing to lavish on them, including free or subsidized housing, free medical care, free language tuition and vocational training, family allowances for food and clothing, and more. If they need more than the state provides, they have found ways to improve their finances, by crimes of property — street robberies, house burglaries, shoplifting — as well as by drug trafficking.
The UK has already taken in several million Muslims, many of them claiming to be refugees seeking asylum but they are, in fact, economic migrants, hoping to take advantage of the cornucopia of benefits the British welfare state provides, including free or subsidized housing, free medical care, free education, family allowances, and more. The British are fed up with the behavior of these Muslim migrants, and are particularly alarmed about sexual assaults by these migrants, so many of whom are young single males. The government has placed tens of thousands of them in hotels and inns in both cities and small villages, or repurposed army barracks, where they sometimes outnumber the locals by more than three to one. This state of affairs has led to angry protests by the locals. In the Oxfordshire town of Piddington, pop. 350, the people of the village have voted to declare their independence from the UK as a protest of the government’s plans to place 1,250 Muslim male migrants in a former army barracks in Bicester right outside Piddington. In Dover on September 5, hundreds of masked demonstrators dressed in black and wearing balaclavas blocked access roads to the Port of Dover, disrupting traffic, cargo vehicles, and ferry operations while chanting “Stop the boats.”
There have been other protests as well. The British public is waking up to the danger of these Muslim migrants, but Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, herself a Muslim, thinks there is no reason to worry about an influx of “Palestinian” refugees, who she says should be welcomed with Britain’s characteristic “generosity.” The Muslim recipients of that “generosity” have ill-used it. They have brought more crime, more antisemitism, more physical danger to girls and women (a quarter of a million have been victims of Pakistani grooming gangs), and more expense — tens of billions of pounds annually — to the UK. None of this experience has dampened Shabana Mahmood’s enthusiasm for still more Muslim migrants.
In a letter to Mahmood, the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC) — an umbrella group representing Jewish organizations across the UK — expressed concern that the initiative could make antisemitic views “more prevalent” unless effective security screening and education are provided to those selected for resettlement.
“Britain can offer sanctuary to those genuinely facing persecution while protecting the safety of the communities in which they will make their homes and upholding the values of the country we love,” the letter reads.
Again, one wonders why the letter from the Jewish group did not make what should be an obvious point: if any group of Arabs need “sanctuary,” then they should seek it from fellow Arabs, and not from the UK or any other Western country that has already provided such refuge to Muslims in the past and suffered greatly as a result.
Madnesss. Mahmood wants to push those “Palestinian” refugees to the head of the line in seeking succor from charities and nonprofits, in acceptance into, and scholarships from, universities, and also wants to offer them special programs to ease their way into employment, programs not available to the native British. Yet on campuses throughout the Western world, “Palestinian” students such as Mahmoud Khalil at Columbia have spread their anti-Israel and antisemitic poison to impressionable classmates, making life on those campuses deeply unsettling and unpleasant for Jewish and Israeli students. The last place in the world Shabana Mahmood should want to help “Palestinians” to infiltrate is Western universities, if she has any concern for the effect their presence will have on the safety of Jewish students.
Mahmood wants British charities and nonprofits to provide extra financial support to these “Palestinians” beyond the extensive welfare benefits the government provides. Why they should receive such unusually favorable treatment — far beyond what other refugees receive — is not clear. Has “Palestinianism” — the cult of “Palestine” that Bat Ye’or first identified — that special solicitude for “Palestinians” that has arisen precisely because they are enemies of the maligned Jewish state — reached the highest levels of the British government?
With antisemitic attacks in the UK rising precipitously, year after year, is this really the time to bring in hundreds, and then thousands, of “Palestinians” who are the chief international carriers of antisemitism? Shouldn’t Shabana Mahmood take that into account? And shouldn’t her first priority in the current climate be the safety of British Jews, her fellow countrymen, and not the “Palestinians” who, when polled, still overwhelmingly support the Hamas atrocities carried out on October 7, 2023?
