Lubna Speitan, the Green Party member behind the “Zionism is racism” motion, is friends with Minh Quang Pham, an al-Qaeda terrorist who plotted to bomb passengers landing at Heathrow from Israel and America. Speitan, however, said questions about her friendship with Pham were just “character assassination.” She has said herself that despite Pham’s conviction for being a member of al-Qaeda who had been planning to commit a mass murder at Heathrow of travelers arriving from Israel and the United States, she remained his friend. But when others point to her friendship with Pham, she says, that constitutes “character assassination.” How? Please explain.
The prosecutors of Minh Quang Pham had overwhelming proof both of his membership in al Qaeda and of his planning a specific attack at Heathrow. They had an armour-piercing bullet in his luggage. At his residence, the police found tapes of al-Awlaki, the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). He also had on his laptop a six-page guide that al-Awlaki wrote, called Your Instructions, on how best to commit acts of terror. Pham, whom Speitan says is “one of the kindest, honest, most sincere, trustworthy and respectful people” she had ever known, was also hoping to become a mass murderer. Not a good judge of character, this Lubna Speitan. Or rather, she would praise anyone willing to kill for the anti-Zionist cause.

More people, the ever-helpful al-Awlaki reminded him, travelled over the holidays. Heathrow would be chockablock with suitable targets. Pham admitted that he planned to kill hundreds of people. He videotaped himself “testing” a bomb, proclaiming his desire to be a “martyr,”and pressing a “detonator” linked to his laptop. Given all this evidence, and his own confession, why then does Lubna Speitan continue to insist it was all a frame-up, that Pham was innocent? She’s hallucinating.
Pham has since written: “What I did was a massive betrayal to my country of Britain and a massive disservice to Islam, my family and the British people.” Fake contrition, fake apology, both in the hope of obtaining a lighter sentence. No such luck. After the laptop evidence was discovered, the judge increased Pham’s sentence from 40 to 44 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Jewish Greens leader Vivien Lichtenstein admits that “there are certainly some antisemites in the party,” at lower levels. Lichtenstein is wrong. The antisemitism is also at the very top, with the party’s leader Zack Polanski, who is himself Jewish, but also manages to be antisemitic when he denounces Israel for a nonexistent “genocide” and refuses to recognize that Israel has a right to exist.
A Green Party spokesman stated: “Lubna holds no party positions other than being a member and any member can submit policy motions. The referenced court document does not suggest or evidence any illegality and is a decade old.”
The court document, concerning the trial of Minh Quang Pham, does not “suggest illegality” on Lubna Speitan’s part, but it is convincing evidence that she was proud to be his friend, despite the charges against him of being an AQAP member who had been plotting, under the guidance of Anwar al-Awlaki, the mass murder of Israelis and Americans.
The Greens also suggest that they’re considering investigating all this. Investigate away, Greens. But there is really nothing that needs to be investigated. Lubna Speitan was the author of your nauseating “Zionism is racism” resolution, which amounts to a declaration of war against the Jewish state. And Ms. Speitan, as the world now knows, was and remains a friend to an al-Qaeda member and would-be mass murderer. Try to explain that away.
