In the year 636, a massive Roman force came to meet the much smaller invading Muslim force under the command of Khalid ibn al-Walid at Yarmouk in Syria. The Roman general, Vahan, offered to pay him off, saying to Khalid: “It looks as if poverty, nakedness and starvation has compelled you to come here. So they have forgotten a part of what they were reminded of, so we have stirred up ENMITY and HATRED among them until the resurrection day.
