Given the upheaval in France, it is fitting to draw attention to developments north of the American border in Quebec, a distinct Canadian province with its own civil legal system, and the only majority French-speaking jurisdiction in North America. A formidable Palestinian agenda has found its way into the Quebec National Assembly under the auspices of a Palestinian-born politician, Ruba Ghazal. She recently won re-election in the riding of Mercier during the Quebec provincial general election on October 5, and she enthusiastically raised a keffiyeh during her oath-taking ceremony.
The keffiyeh is one of the most powerful symbols of the Palestinian ‘resistance’. And she gained the attention of Qatar-owned Al Jazeera…

BREAKING: Ruba Ghazal has been sworn in as a member of the National Assembly in Quebec City.
She proudly wages the Canadian flag while she’s sworn in.
Sorry, typo, she waved a Palestinian keffiyeh. https://t.co/B5dpw5RE1m

For some background on Ghazal’s agenda and that of her party, Canadian Jewish News reported this in November 2024:
A Quebec’s National Assembly has rejected a call to debate a motion in solidarity with Gaza brought by Québec Solidaire (QS) MNA Ruba Ghazal. In her motion, Ghazal—who was born in Lebanon to Palestinian refugees—wanted the Assembly to acknowledge statements by United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese, who visited Quebec this week and told a press conference by the Ligue des Droits et Libertés and Coalition du Québec Urgence Palestine, that the world is witnessing “the first colonial genocide broadcast live in Palestine.”

The Quebec government is to be applauded for rejecting Ghazal’s call to debate such a motion in support of the infamous Albanese, whom Ghazal wants to promote as she leverages her political authority. Albanese’s reputation precedes her:
Francesca Albanese’s long record of virulent antisemitism, repeated legitimization of terrorist actors, and flagrant abuse of her mandate have long crossed every acceptable line of conduct for a UN Special Rapporteur.
Democratic governments around the world, including the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, and Austria, have now all called for her resignation.
We call on the Government of Canada to join its democratic allies in formally demanding Francesca Albanese’s resignation, and to take measures here at home, including the removal of all of her reports from Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board approval process.

Ghazal became a founding member of Quebec Solidaire in 2006. Her next goal is to become premier of the province, as the first-choice candidate for the Quebec Solidaire party (QS). Though that is unlikely, she remains ambitious. QS is a leftist, independent party with a resolute pro-Palestinian platform, as well a firm commitment to DEI. Ghazal has “repeatedly cited her own immigrant background as an example of how politics should be more inclusive.”
This is where Quebec Solidaire now stands in the overall power structure of Quebec: Following the Quebec general election that was held on October 5, 2026, the Parti Québécois won the election but fell short of a majority, securing 59 seats (64 are needed for a majority); while the Opposition Liberals have 40 seats. The Conservatives hold 19 seats, leaving Québec Solidaire as the fourth party. Québec Solidaire captured 12.42% of the popular vote, translating into 9 seats in the 127-seat National Assembly. So here’s the picture: because the ruling Parti Québécois (PQ) is five seats short of a majority, Québec Solidaire holds a shared balance of power. The PQ cannot pass legislation or survive a non-confidence vote without the backing of at least one opposition party.
Quebec Solidaire has made significant inroads. Think what its foreign platform means for the traditional values of Canada and of Quebec. Think also what it means for Jews in a country, plagued by surging antisemitism.
Ghazal will likely get powerful pushback in her dream to become premier of Quebec. In 2025, Secularism Minister Jean-François Roberge warned that Quebecers need to “wake up to the threat of radical Islamic groups infiltrating society,” while Premier François Legault stated in his inaugural speech that “he has a concrete example of what he describes as an assault against Quebec’s common values…. There is one that is flagrant: what happened at the Bedford school… Listen, radical Islamists who denied young girls from taking physical education courses — that’s not a small matter in Quebec.”
The Quebec Solidaire party frequently aligns with pro-Palestinian advocacy as a matter of course, which has earned it strong opposition from Canadian Jewish groups. Its entire caucus has voted for Palestinian statehood recognition, and is pushing for the province of Quebec to recognize it as well. The party demanded Israeli ceasefire during the height of war in the Gaza Strip, and it opposes the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.

Why this media silence about an Iranian-Qatari interference in the Quebec elections?
QS gathered votes through the “Votons Palestine” campaign, organized by the Palestinianist terrorism of the PYM-FPLP:
Ruba Ghazal, a Beirut-born child of Palestinian refugees, sits in Quebec’s National Assembly as a Québec solidaire co-spokesperson. She waves the keffiyeh and demands Quebec shut its Tel Aviv office, putting a foreign cause above the province that took her family in. This is what left-wing fanaticism looks like: imported grievance politics first, Quebec last. https://t.co/edvfm86UtX

The Palestinian cause is the central cause of the Muslim ummah, and it is relentless in drawing support under the banner of human rights. Canada beware.
