The Israeli actress and model Sarai Givaty is now suing Francesca Albanese, the deep-dyed antisemite who is the UN’s United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Conditions in the Palestinian territories, for defamation. Givaty claims that Albanese has twisted comments Givaty made, and she filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday, October 2. Israeli actress and model Sarai Givaty filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday against Francesca Albanese, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, for allegedly twisting comments she made and comparing them to remarks made by Nazi officials.
The 500,000-shekel lawsuit was filed at the Jerusalem Magistrates’ Court on behalf of Givaty by the Israeli legal advocacy organization Shurat HaDin.
The lawsuit claims that Albanese, who has a mandate from the UN to advise the international body on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, shared a “selectively edited” clip on X from a television interview that Givaty did in September 2025. The UN adviser has decried Israelis as “foreign” Jews who expelled “indigenous” Palestinians from their land for the purpose of creating an exclusionary ethnostate, erasing the millennia-long presence of Jewish people within the land of Israel. She has also repeatedly condemned Israel as a “colonial” enterprise, comparing the Jewish state to British India or French Algeria.
What “ethnostate” is Albanese talking about? Has she forgotten the two million Arab citizens of Israel? The only “ethnostate” is the one that the “Palestinians” hope to create, that will have expelled every last Jew from whatever territory it possesses. And can Israel be called a “colonial enterprise,” when Jews have been living in the territory of present-day Israel for the past 3500 years? How can the Jews be “colonizing” their own historic homeland?
It is clear that when Givaty said that “I feel sad for every child in the world who cries. I do. But I also understand that if we don’t act, that child will grow up to be a terrorist,” she did not mean the IDF should kill children, but rather, that it should remove those who bring up Palestinian children to hate Jews and to want to become terrorists in order to kill them. That means re-educating children away from hate, changing the virulently antisemitic textbooks used in UNRWA schools in Gaza, ending the glorification of terrorists in Palestinian society, and removing Hamas from power. It’s not killing children, but educating them properly, that Ms. Givaty was advocating.
Albanese’s sinister twisting of her meaning has led to the Israeli actress receiving online abuse and death threats, as well as losing employment opportunities within Israel and abroad. And now she hopes to make Albanese pay 500,000 shekels for her defamation. I have only one quarrel with her lawsuit. Given the harm she has suffered as a result of Albanese’s deliberate misrepresentation of her remark, she ought to raise her demand for compensation by a factor of ten.

Israel is not like the U.S., where one can sue for a $Gazillion for defamation. Today’s conversion rate is one dollar = 3.02 NIS (new Israeli shekel).
