In response, Omar’s husband/brother dropped his petition for a green card.

The official media narrative is that the only reason people keep saying that Rep. Ilhan Omar’s marriage to a man, whom some suspect was her brother, was fake is a retroactive response to her extremist political career by conservative activists.
Except that the Washington Post just revealed that immigration officials had been concerned that the marriage was a fake at the time.
At the time, the agency was primarily focused on possible fraud related to Omar’s marriage to her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Right-wing commentators had repeatedly pressed unsubstantiated claims that Omar and Elmi were siblings who carried out a sham marriage so that Elmi could obtain U.S. immigration benefits.
Elmi had previously filed an immigration petition related to his marriage-based green card that would move it from conditional status to permanent. USCIS requested additional evidence due to concerns over the validity of his marriage, but Elmi withdrew the application following that request, one of the former officials said. Elmi could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
The Washington Post starts out trying to undermine the questions about Omar’s past only to admit that those questions had been raised by immigration officials at the time.
Omar and Elmi could have answered those questions and quickly achieved legal status… but Elmi was the one who withdrew the petition.
American legal status is a big deal. Why did Elmi drop out after being asked to verify his marriage? That’s a massive red flag.
Meanwhile, the media’s defense of Omar’s age change rests on the supposed lack of definite birth certificates in Somalia. That’s not a defense, it’s an argument that the government can’t prove its case because the records in Omar’s backward hellhole are untrustworthy.
