Ever since Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral election nearly a year ago, many New Yorkers have chosen to give him a chance. Yes, this is the same guy who struggled to condemn the phrase globalize the intifada on the campaign trail. This is the same politician who led a rally outside Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s office just 13 days after October 7, 2023, demanding a ceasefire and accusing Israel of genocide. But the trash is getting picked up on time, crime rates have dropped, and around 60 percent of New Yorkers think he is doing a good job.
Don’t be fooled. Mamdani hasn’t changed. He is still a smiling wolf masquerading as a sheep. Just consider his statement marking the third anniversary of October 7 on Wednesday.
He starts by grieving the “horrific war crimes” of that awful day and recognizing how “profoundly painful” the atrocity was to New Yorkers.
With that throat-clearing out of the way, the mayor got down to business. “The suffering did not begin nor end that day,” Mamdani wrote. “It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children.” It goes on: “That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing.”…
Mamdani claims that the IDF killed “more than 21,000 children” in Gaza. He’s wrong. Of the 74,000 Gazans who have died, at least 25,000 were Hamas combatants. On the basis of historical data, we know that 8,000 Gazans die each year of accidents or disease — that is, they die from non-combat related causes. In the three years since the war began, 24,000 Gazans have died from accidents and disease. In addition, between 3,000 and 5,000 Gazans have died as a result of rockets that Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched, that misfired and fell inside Gaza. Do the math, and we arrive at a figure of at most 22,000 Gazan civilians who died as a result of the war. But Mamdani wants us to believe that “21,000 children” were killed by the IDF in Gaza. 21,000 out of 22,000 killed in Gaza by the IDF were children? How likely is that?
Zohran Mamdani is a disgrace.
