The Army has been told to stop “non-essential” training exercises to save money, according to a defence source.
A defence source said the plans mean not doing what he called “nice to have training” – like large live fire exercises and rehearsing platoon attacks in UK training areas like Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire and Sennybridge in Wales.
It is understood planned exercises that were due to take place that are now cancelled include one involving the Royal Tank Regiment conducting live fire drills in Wales and a separate exercise involving tanks and Apache helicopters.
This was not the choice of the army, the source said. The pause is expected to continue for most of this year.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has urged the prime minister to “cut welfare spending and invest that money in our defence”.
The good news is that the ‘welfare spending’ will be in Gaza.
The military is trying to cut 26 million pounds and the UK’s left-wing regime will be sending 23 million pounds to UNRWA, which acts as a front for Hamas, and will be spent in Gaza and other terrorist-occupied territories.
The UK government will today announce £23 million of support for UNRWA to deliver lifesaving support for Palestine refugees at a pledging conference in New York.

It is interesting that you should bring that up. A few days ago, on @X, an Israeli posted that both Israel and US should re-evaluate their policy & formally support President Millei’s new claims on the Falklands. I supported his suggestion on them doing that on geopolitical grounds – not b’cos the Argentine claim is justified (which is ain’t, given that all of Falkland’s residents are Englishmen) but b’cos geopolitically, the US has little to lose from abandoning Britain (which has abandoned the US) but a lot to gain in terms of Latin American goodwill & support if we flipped sides
A lot of Brits there took umbrage at his and my comments, and pointed out that Britain has a much larger garrison there than they did in 1982. As well as other things such as Argentina having no navy, yada yada yada. I noted that this is not Thatcher’s Britain, and that the UK is not even stopping an invasion of mainland Britain, so any claims that it can defend the Falklands are quixotic at best. If they can, why can’t they defend their actual homeland Britain? If they can’t, then they’re obviously not what they were in 1982. Plus, an army does need to fight a war to be in the best shape, which is why the US and Israeli militaries, as well as now the Ukrainian military, is miles ahead of countries in Europe such as France or even Britain
To any British posters here, note that from a moral standpoint, I do think that Britain is in the right here, and that Falklands is not the same as British colonization of the subcontinent or Palestine: its people are English, not descendents of indigenous peoples who lived there before the Brits arrived. But London has done things like recognize the imaginary state of Balestine, as well as provide a haven for jihadists, which makes me loathe to support them even when they are in the right. On one hand, they (rightly) contest Argentina’s claim on the Falklands or Spain’s possessions of Ceuta, but on the other, assert that Judea and Samaria don’t belong to Israel. Well, as the Israelis point out, Judea and Samaria are more central to Jewish heritage and Israeli security than either the Falklands or Ceuta are to British or Spanish heritage or security
The Reagan-Thatcher, or the Bush-Blair relationships b/w 🇺🇸🇬🇧 are dead. We should do what is in our geopolitical interests. Supporting Argentina, however unjustified, would solidify the Rightist wave that has recently blown through Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and most recently Venezuela. In 1982, after the Falklands war, a number of Latin American countries, who supported Argentina, soured on the US – particularly Mexico. This is a good opportunity to win them back if we want to control our hemisphere, which is way more useful than a British alliance

That pooch has already been screwed. Starting w/ President Trump 45’s justified demand that NATO allies pay their fair share, to cutting back on the support of Ukraine. Anglo-US relations are already pretty bad, but in the meantime, there has been a Rightist wave in Latin America that the US could just capture if it made the right geopolitical moves. Backing Millei’s unjustified claim could do just that: win US the goodwill of the OAS countries, while the Brits, who hate Trump anyway, can’t hurt us much more
Treaties have their lifetimes. I’m not suggesting something like al Hudaybiyya, but after WWI and WWII and the Cold War, followed by decades where Europe took the “peace dividend” but just leeched off the US as far as security goes, it’s fair enough for the US to “abandon” Europe, if that’s what we’re doing. Just b’cos we signed a Treaty w/ them in 1949 doesn’t mean that we have to be a part of it to eternity. Eras change, and so do our policies
