The Irresistible Rise of Alternative für Deutschland 

As the anti-immigrant—or more exactly, the anti-Muslim immigrant — Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party rises, its political enemies become ever more desperate. The AfD goes from strength to strength. It has now won control of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The nationwide opinion polls show it leading all the other parties, as Muslim immigration has become the central issue for the German electorate. Those other parties have tried to have the AfD banned, tarring it as “extreme right” or even hinting at some non-existent Nazi connection, so far without success. But they will keep trying.

Opponents of the AfD have done more than name-calling. They have taken to physically attacking officials and supporters of the party. The latest such attack took place in Bad Kreuznach, where political enemies threw acid at nine people belonging to the AfD. Two of them had to be taken to the hospital. Nine people were injured after a corrosive liquid was reportedly thrown at an information stand belonging to the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party in Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate.

According to the information available and videos circulating on social media, disinfectant was poured from an adjacent building toward the AfD stand. Among those taken to hospital were AfD politicians Nicole Höchst and Sebastian Münzenmaier.

The incident has drawn condemnation from senior AfD figures and supporters, who have described the attack as another example of the escalating hostility faced by the party and its representatives.

Right-wing political commentator Naomi Seibt, who became famous as the “first German asylum seeker” after she sought political asylum in the United States in 2025 citing political persecution in her home country, wrote on X “Leftists attacked an AfD booth with a corrosive liquid,” adding that two AfD politicians had been taken to hospital….

This latest incident comes as the AfD is set to win the Saxony-Anhalt state election this Sunday, maintaining a decisive lead ahead of its chief rival, the governing CDU.

The other parties are in a panic about the inexorable rise of the AfD, which has just won its first state election in Saxony-Anhalt. They have sullied the party as “extremist”and “neo-Nazi.” They have tried to have the party outlawed. They have threatened members and officials belonging to the AfD. They have beaten up its councillors, tried to kill a state parliament member of the AfD by stabbing him in the back, but fortunately his computer, inside his backpack, blunted the blow of the knife, and just now. They have thrown acid at nine AfD supporters manning an information stand in Bad Kreuznach, sending two to the hospital.

Who are the real Nazis? Not those who belong to the AfD, the party that wants to keep out of Germany the enemies of freedom, the destroyers of Western civilization, the murderers of Jews, the misogynists who want to keep women down. The AfD is not attacking any of its political enemies physically, but those enemies — in the spirit of the Sturmabteilung (Stormtroopers) beating up anti-Nazis on German streets in the early 1930s — have been using violence against the AfD to intimidate its supporters and to make its messaging harder to disseminate.

It is not likely to work. Today the AfD governs the important state of Saxony-Anhalt. Many more such victories are coming. In the latest opinion polls, 43% of Germans support the AfD, despite the relentless campaign by all the other parties to blacken its image. Its head, the formidable Alice Weidel, is running circles around Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the other German politicians who still refuse to address the elephant in the room — Muslim immigration. But eventually some of those politicians will come round, recognize the rightness of the AfD’s alarm and the widespread support for its proposed solutions, and drop their current refusal to enter into a government led by the AfD.
