‘Terrorist Granny’ Now Standing for Seat in General Synod of Church of England

So old, and yet so foolish. A “terrorist granny” facing charges for supporting Palestine Action is seeking election to the Church of England’s legislative body.

Sharen Green, 80, is standing for General Synod despite being arrested for expressing support for the proscribed group.

The self-described “terrorist granny”, from Wimborne, Dorset, was arrested in September last year after expressing support for Palestine Action in Parliament Square in London.

She was among 857 demonstrators arrested that day for holding placards that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.”

Lord Walney, the government’s former independent adviser on political violence, told The Telegraph: “Electing to the General Synod someone who faces charges for supporting the vicious and violent Palestine Action group would underline the Church of England’s alarming embrace of twisted anti-Israel propaganda that is fuelling the explosion of anti-Semitism across the UK.

“Church leaders like the Archbishop of Canterbury may claim they have no power over the synod but they are showing a lamentable lack of leadership as the Church becomes corrupted by this new wave of Jew hatred which cloaks itself in the righteous language of justice for Palestinians.”

The Church of England does not prevent convicted criminals or those facing criminal charges from being elected to General Synod, known as the Church’s parliament.

Mrs Green said: “As my actions were holding up a placard on the first occasion and having a perfectly civilised conversation with a police officer on the second, I think the charge of terrorism is laughable.

She was expressing her support on both occasions for Palestine Action, that the British government proscribed as a terrorist on July 5, 2025, citing an escalating campaign of serious property damage and break-ins targeting military bases and defense manufacturers linked to Israel. The government utilized a legal provision under the Terrorism Act 2000 that classifies “serious damage to property” for a political or ideological cause as a form of terrorism. The decision followed a June 2025 incident where activists broke into the Royal Air Force base at RAF Brize Norton and spray-painted military aircraft with red paint. British officials pointed to repeated disruptions and millions of pounds in damage caused at facilities belonging to defense firms like Elbit Systems and Lockheed Martin over the preceding years. The proscription criminalized membership and expressions of support, leading to thousands of arrests.

“My placard said ‘I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action’. I told the police officer that I support Palestine Action and I encouraged him to do the same, adding that ‘saving lives is not terrorism’.

“I was standing up for the poor and the marginalised – that’s what we’re called to do as followers of Jesus. If that has consequences for me, then so be it.”…

The “poor and the marginalized”? Is that how she thinks the Palestinian Arabs should be characterized? Are they “marginalized” or are they, in truth, the favorite cause of left-wing and anstisemitic people — political figures, the media, performers and celebrities of every conceivable kind — all over our giddy globe? How rare it is to attend a music festival where someone does not shout out “Free Palestine” or “Stop the genocide.” Are the Palestinian Arabs not the center of attention in the UN and in the Organization of the Islamic Conference? Can they be considered “poor” when billions of dollars in aid have been lavished upon them by UNRWA, by the Arab states of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, and by Western donors?

“All of us support non-violent direct action group Palestine Action (PA) which the government has proscribed. We all believe that this is a travesty of justice.”

But Palestine Action is not nonviolent. In just one of its “actions” its members caused seven million pounds ($9.55 million) of damage when they broke into the Brize Newton British airbase in Oxfordshire.

Referring to the Kairos II document, Mrs Green said: “I would hope to work with others to implement the promises made to Palestinians at July’s Geneal [sic] Synod.”

What were those promises “made to Palestinians” in July? Oh, to denounce Israel for “genocide” in Gaza. But there has been no “genocide” in Gaza, no “intent”— the essential element — to commit genocide. There has been instead, a tremendous effort by the IDF to minimize civilian casualties, by dropping millions of leaflets, sending millions of text messages, and making millions of robocalls, in order to warn civilians away from sites about to be targeted. As West Point Professor John Spencer, a leading scholar of urban warfare, has concluded from his own study of the Gaza war, “Israel has done more and implemented more measures to prevent civilian harm than any military in the history of urban warfare.”

The result of this IDF effort has been that the civilian-to-combatant ratio of deaths in Gaza was 25,415:25,000, or close to 1:1, a figure unparalleled in the history of modern warfare. The Church’s response to the document – which calls the war in Gaza a genocide, deems Israel a “colonial, settler and exclusionary entity” and describes Palestinians as the “indigenous people of this land” – was described as “shameful” by the Chief Rabbi in July.

Jews have been living in the Land of Israel for the past 3500 years, 2000 years before a single Muslim Arab appeared. How does the Church of England manage to ignore that fact, and instead, grotesquely, describe Palestinian Arabs as “the indigenous people of this land”?

Something is terribly wrong within the C. of E. when many of its clerics declare their support for Palestine Action, that their own government has proscribed as a terrorist group.

Let’s hope that its members do not elect to the General Synod someone as addlepated in her denunciation of a nonexistent “genocide” by the IDF as this Witch of Wimborne, who in her fourscore years has grown not in wisdom but in foolishness, the “terrorist granny,” as she proudly styles herself, Sharen Green.
