Soft-Headed Judges Are Undermining Security in Italy

In Italy, some judges are treating migrant criminals with a leniency so great that it is itself criminal. The latest example, where a Bangladeshi man accused of raping a 13-year-old was let out of prison after only two days, can be found here: “Outrage in Italy After Man Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old Is Released,” by Zoltán Kottász, European Conservative, September 2, 2026:

Why did this Muslim ask the girl her age? Perhaps he wanted to make sure she was at least nine years old, the age of little Aisha when 54-year-old Muhammad had sexual intercourse with her. Who says a Muslim rapist doesn’t have principles?

Police arrested the man shortly afterwards, with surveillance footage from the shop forming part of the evidence. Prosecutors requested that he remain in custody. However, a judge ordered his release, only requiring him to report to the police.

The judge cited the suspect’s lack of previous convictions, his co-operation with investigators, and his expression of remorse….

Oh, that’s okay then. He hadn’t any previous convictions, according to the judge. But in fact that very day, less than an hour before he raped the 13-year-old, he had sexually assaulted — was it rape or something less? — another female, whose age we do not know. And he expressed “remorse.” Why, of course he did. When caught, these rapists all do. So what?

In Italy, the judiciary has in recent decades become increasingly left-wing, which translates into leniency for criminals, especially if they are Muslim migrants, whom the left in Italy for some reason feels it has a special duty to protect. It’s the same all over Europe, where the left insists on supporting these migrants, and insisting they be allowed in, no matter what mayhem they cause. Think of La France Insoumise, headed by the far-left Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the party that fights any attempt by the government to bring Muslim immigration under control, and to deport Muslim criminals after they have served their sentence. In adopting this stance, Mélenchon hopes to win votes from the constantly increasing Muslim electorate.

In March, Meloni criticised judges after the deportation of a Moroccan migrant with multiple criminal convictions, including involvement in a gang rape, was suspended following an asylum application.

This case made for headlines all over the Italian press, and on television, though it received no coverage outside Italy. This Moroccan, who had been convicted of many crimes including participation in a gang rape, was finally about to be deported back to his country of origin, when all he had to do was apply for asylum status, and an immigration judge ruled he could not be deported while that status was being considered. It was pointed out that there was no reason for asylum status to be granted, that Morocco is peaceful, there is neither a civil war nor any persecution of minorities, and that immigrants from Morocco are exclusively economic migrants, hoping to batten on all the welfare benefits that European states provide. The asylum application ought to have been rejected at once. But instead, it is still being considered, six months after having first been submitted.

Judges in Italy are difficult to replace. But if the right — Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia — gains still more support, with many more representatives in Parliament, as now seems likely given the rise in anti-Muslim migrant sentiment, it may find ways to pressure sitting judges to enforce the law less leniently than they have been doing with Muslim defendants. And Meloni’s party will be sure to appoint to new judgeships people who share the Fratelli d’Italia’s view that the large-scale presence of Muslims in Italy has created a situation that is more unpleasant, expensive, and physically dangerous for the indigenous Infidels, than would be the case without that large-scale presence.
