I don’t want to “blame the victims” here, but a lot of those Israelis who were massacred were the Kumbaya Leftist Israelis who thought that they could make the Palis love them by inviting them into their communities to work and earn a living. From that POV, the Palis dealt a death blow to those Leftist Israelis who thought that they could peacefully co-exist

During my brief and inglorious career with the State Department, I saw people who came in all gung ho for the pro-Communist, pro-Islamicist “peace and justice” thing (so-called) who, after a tour or two in some revolutionary Third World kleptocracy (among which I include the People’s Republic of China, where I served a tour), became about as fiercely anti-Communist as Joe McCarthy, Pope John Paul II, and Jiang Jieshi (I speak Mandarin, not Cantonese) rolled into one.
I believe that some of those peacenik Israelis who survived the 10/7 attack have probably rethought their position.
Arab and Muslim streets long used the plight of the poor-poor-Palestinian refugees as an excuse to periodically trash US diplomatic missions and even kill our diplomatic personnel. Yet the USA has given citizenship to more victims of an-Nakhba and their descendants than any seven Arabic-speaking and Muslim countries combined (where the descendants of the 1948 refugees remain stateless to the fifth generation now). This should be a US talking point. We’ve seen Delhi-born Pervez Musharaf sit down with Lahore-born Manmohan Singh–two children of a far larger refugee crisis from the late 1940’s–to discuss lowering tensions between Pakistan and India. The time is long past due for the Arab states to naturalize the “Palestinians” in their midst; especially those who were born within their borders.
