,An Israeli man was killed as he bathed with friends in a spring in the West Bank on Sunday.
The suspected assailant, a Palestinian man who allegedly fired shots at the bathers as he drove by in a red Mitsubishi SUV, was captured by Israeli soldiers when they raided a hospital in Ramallah as part of their manhunt. He had been wounded by Israeli fire as he attempted to flee the scene by foot.
“Army commandos apprehended the terrorist after he had fled to a hospital near the site of the attack,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
Israeli media identified the victim as Netanel Shukrun, a father of six who was in his thirties. He had gone to the spring to bathe with his eldest son before the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement. He was evacuated from the scene but later succumbed to his wounds.
“He was a man of kindness, humble and a lover of people, murdered just after he finished immersing in the water with his son ahead of Yom Kippur,” said Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria regional council — the biblical name for the northern West Bank.
The suspect was identified as Qadri Samarah, 37. Local reports said he was found in the H-Clinic hospital in Ramallah. The Israeli military also confiscated the vehicle he allegedly used in the attack.
In a separate incident on Sunday, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man near the city of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank after he “attempted to carry out a vehicular attack” near an illegal settlement. An army spokesperson said there were no casualties among Israeli forces….
