Ghalibaf is unlikely to be frightened over Trump’s threats at the UN. It’s the winner who dictates terms to the loser. The Islamic Republic is still in power, and so it considers itself to have won its war with the U.S., and now it is dictating terms. The U.S. is likely to come around, in Tehran’s view, because of Trump’s need to have the situation appear to be under control for the midterm elections. But in reality, it’s a spiraling disaster.

Iran’s parliament speaker said Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US fulfills commitments made under a June agreement and meets Tehran’s conditions.
Addressing the parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Iran has “explicitly conveyed its conditions to the opposing side through intermediaries,” according to state-run broadcaster IRIB.
“The enemy is well aware that the path of deception and unilateral imposition is closed; until these conditions are met, the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation are recognised, and American commitments are fulfilled, there will be no opening for a return to the previous state of negotiations or for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, prompting Tehran to respond with strikes on countries in the region hosting US military assets.

That’s why the best thing Trump could do would be to signal to the Israelis that it’s okay to resume, and while the Israelis are at it, announce a gradual US withdrawal from the region. As I suggested in the previous thread, let Israel and Pahlavi co-ordinate the regime change, while Trump withdraws and gives anti-war voters on the Right a reason to keep supporting the GOP

Is the Strait of Hormuz closed or open or partially open or partially closed?
Before the war, reportedly 20 million barrels of oil were shipped via the Strait of Hormuz, including Iranian exported oil.
In early September, President Trump claimed the U.S. had effectively reopened the Strait of Hormuz, with 18 million barrels of oil reportedly crossing under American protection.
The figures of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz reported by private or government intelligence organisations such as Kpler, Lloyd’s List Intelligence and Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) all differ.
Some weeks ago, the maritime intelligence agency TankerTrackers reported a 60-day average at 7.85 million barrels a day.
Then there is the estimated 7 million barrels per day reportedly moving out via Saudi or UAE pipelines.
If the TankerTrackers average figure is accurate, together with the Saudi and UAE pipeline oil, that would suggest a cumulative total of nearly 15 million barrels is getting out daily, and possibly no Iranian oil.
But here we have an Iranian spokesperson claiming the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
While the Iranians are well known to be liars, what is the truth?
