At least seven civilians were killed in a weekend attack by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in a village in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a local official said on Sunday.
The attack took place in the Mambasa territory of Ituri province on Saturday, according to Alberic Kahundirwa, a local official.
“The death toll remains provisional because several people are missing. But the attackers also set fire to about 20 houses,” Kahundirwa told reporters.
The latest attack came a week after separate other attacks in various villages in the same territory left 16 people were killed and several others abducted.
The ADF is affiliated with the ISIS (Daesh) and has been active in eastern Congo for several years….

The problem is that unarmed victims cannot shoot back. When the attacker(s) know that they can kill the unarmed they can do so with impunity. Once however, the other side shoots back, the shooters almost always flee.

Adel Daoud (2012): A teenager from a Chicago suburb tried to detonate what he thought was a car bomb outside a downtown Chicago bar during an FBI undercover sting. The device was inert. He was arrested immediately, and after legal appeals, he was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison.
Sears Tower Plot (2006): A Miami-based group planned to blow up the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) in Chicago. The FBI intercepted the plan before any attack or material acquisition occurred, leading to federal trials.
Derrick Shareef (2006): An Illinois man was arrested for plotting to use hand grenades to attack a shopping mall in Rockford, near Chicago, during the holiday rush. He acted alone and was caught in an FBI sting.
Ashraf Al Safoo (2018–2026): A Chicago web developer led the Khattab Media Foundation, an online group that spread ISIS propaganda and encouraged attacks. He was arrested in 2018 and sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in April 2026.
