As we have seen at airports all over North America and Europe, these nonsectarian, generic “quiet rooms” quickly take on a decidedly Islamic character, with prayer rugs, shelves full of Qur’ans, the qibla marked on the wall, and more. Muslims make up only two percent of Canada’s population, but wield outsize political power, due to Islam’s political and supremacist agenda remaining largely unrecognized among non-Muslims, and hence not resisted.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, a total of 934 open spaces were created by managers following efforts from former cabinet adviser Amira Elghawaby, appointed Canada’s first special representative on combating Islamophobia in January 2023, to promote Muslim prayer rooms in government offices.
Only 2% of federal employees identified themselves as Muslim in a 2024 questionnaire….
“These spaces are available to all employees and may be used for a range of purposes including private conversations, quiet reflection, prayer and informal collaboration,” said Transport Canada, which reported 63 available spaces….
Elghawaby, who resigned her role as special representative on combating Islamophobia in late February, had advocated for the creation of spaces for Muslims to pray.
“Islamophobia in the workplace looks like many things,” Elghaway wrote in a 2024 Access To Information memo.
“It can manifest when Muslim employees face challenges in accessing reasonable accommodations for religious practices such as prayer breaks, fasting during Ramadan or dress code requirements.”
In 2025, Elghaway prepared letters “to be sent out to deputy ministers regarding concerns raised by the Muslim Federal Employees Network,” a diversity and inclusion network of employees within the federal public service created in June 2021.
“Muslims have five obligatory prayers a day; sometimes up to three of the five prayers occur daily during a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. workday,” the group said in a 11-page managers guide to help support Muslim employees.
“Prayers must be performed within their allocated time periods which vary day to day and month to month because the length of daylight/night-time hours change from day to day, and from one geographical region to another.”…
