Consider why people in Afghanistan would protest to begin with. It would be to defend women’s rights, or the rights of minorities. Such rights are not recognized under the Sharia, which directs that women must be covered from head to toe except for their faces or eyes (Quran 24:31, 33:59), and that infidels (that is, members of minority religions) must either convert to Islam or live deprived of basic rights, and that gays must be put to death. So of course, it would make sense that the Taliban would ban all protests.
Those who still do not recognize that Islam is not a religion of peace are the only people who will be surprised that the Taliban has banned protests.
In case anyone forgot, Iran cracked down on protests with extreme brutality, for exactly the same reason: to protect Islamic law from opposition. Iran is the leading Shia nation of the world.
Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s foremost Sunni nations, imposed a ban on all protests in 2011, so such a ban isn’t unique to the Taliban. It’s Islam, and it’s time to wake up. In 2024 according to Human Rights Watch:
A Saudi court upheld the death penalty sentences for two Saudi men for protest-related offenses allegedly committed as children, despite statements by Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission claiming that no one in Saudi Arabia will be executed for a crime committed as a child.
As for Turkey, the only Islamic member in NATO, protests are technically legal under its constitution, but the Turkish government heavily restricts them, frequently bans them, and if they do get held, the police tightly control them. Decrees give authorities sweeping powers to restrict protests.
The truth about Islam can only be stifled for so long.

Demonstrations in Afghanistan have been rare since the Taliban returned to power just over five years ago, but the government last month introduced a rule holding that “all types of protests are banned”.
International organisations have decried the law as “ruthless” and a move to suppress any dissent in the country.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP during a news conference that the “law fully complies with Islamic law”, adding that “protests don’t exist in Islamic law”.
“Protests belong to societies where there are different laws established, for example a democracy or a republic,” Mujahid said.
Under the Islamic system, he said, people can approach the government with concerns rather than hold demonstrations.
Mujahid argued the ban “will also protect people from wasting time” and prevent the destruction of private property.
Human Rights Watch late last month slammed the ban as “another step in the Taliban’s ruthless effort to suppress all dissent”.
Amnesty International described the Taliban’s broader series of changes to law enforcement as “another sweeping assault on human rights in Afghanistan”, calling the protest ban “among its most egregious provisions”.…
