Whatever one thinks of Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate for Senate from Michigan — he looks good to me — many people see the most important task as preventing his opponent, the anti-Israel Muslim Abdul el-Sayed, from becoming a senator. El-Sayed has denied that the Jewish state has a right to exist. He has repeatedly accused Israel of committing “genocide.” El-Sayed’s birth mother, Fatten Elkomy, worked for the Islamic American Relief Agency, also known as the IARA. The U.S. Treasury Department in 2004 designated the network as an organization supporting terrorism, including support for Osama bin Laden and Hamas. Treasury documents also stated that as early as 2003, the organization was “responsible for moving funds to the Palestinian territories for use in terrorist activities, notably serving as a conduit to Hamas in one Western European country.”
El-Sayed has accepted campaign donations from the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group that was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial. Federal prosecutors have long alleged historical and structural links between CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood.
El-Sayed has campaigned with the fanatical antisemite and supporter of Islamic terrorism Hasan Piker, who famously said that “America deserved 9/11.” Asked about Piker’s remark, El-Sayed did not call it “unacceptable” and “outrageous.” No, he simply called it “dumb.” And he has continued to campaign with Hasan Piiker .
No wonder, then, that many Democrats in Michigan — especially but not exclusively Jews — are determined to prevent a victory by Abdul el-Sayed.

Rabbi Asher Lopatin, an Orthodox rabbi in Michigan, announced this week that he will support Republican US Senate candidate Mike Rogers in the upcoming November election, citing Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s positions on Israel and his relationship with figures accused of antisemitism.
The move comes as several Jewish leaders in the Wolverine State who typically vote for Democrats consider backing Rogers and urge others to do the same due to alarm over El-Sayed.
Lopatin, who serves as director of community relations at the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor, typically votes Democratic. However, he said he will cross party lines to vote for Rogers after El-Sayed narrowly won the Democratic primary earlier this month.
“I’m going to vote for Mike Rogers,” Lopatin said, while stressing that he was speaking in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the federation.
“I have concerns, but I have to do whatever I can to make sure this candidate, Abdul El-Sayed, does not win,” he added.
Lopatin’s decision reflects a growing debate among Michigan Jewish Democrats over whether their traditional support for the Democratic Party can withstand concerns about El-Sayed, a progressive former Detroit health director whose campaign has made fierce criticism of Israel a central issue….
This successful far-left appropriation of the word “progressive” is infuriating. For most of us, the word “progressive” suggests something positive. Let’s stop using it for the likes of Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Aisha Wahhab, Zohran Mamdani, and Abdul el-Sayed, and insist to those who now use the word “progressive” to describe such people in public life that the correct term is “far-left.”
El-Sayed sparked outrage in March after hesitating to condemn a terrorist attack at a Michigan synagogue that included an attempted mass killing of Jewish children. According to reports, he expressed concern in private meetings that condemning the attack would offend potential voters sympathetic to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist group. He also reportedly hesitated to comment on the US-Israeli strikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in late February, citing support for Khamenei among some of his prospective constituents.
Abdul el-Sayed wouldn’t immediately condemn a terrorist attack on a synagogue, that included a foiled attempt to mass-murder Jewish children, because it would offend some of his supporters. He wouldn’t support the killing of the fanatical tyrant Ayatollah Khamenei because some voters in Michigan supported Khamenei. Is this a profile in courage?
No Jewish voters in Michigan, and no non-Jewish voters who are alarmed at the inroads Muslims are making in federal, state, and local elections, should for one minute consider voting for Abdul El-Sayed. His victory would, like that of Zohran Mamdani in New York, hearten the anti-Israel and anti-American far-left, the people who want to defund the police, open the borders, and cut off all aid to Israel. Were El-Sayed to be elected, he would immediately become a hero to the Muslims and their supporters all over this land, a political force to be reckoned with, along with Zohran Mamdani, in a party where sanity is now in short supply. Many believe that he needs to be stopped in the Michigan election.
