Humanity has consistently formed religions and developed faith in deities since the dawn of recorded history, transcending cultural and societal barriers. This universal phenomenon suggests that all human societies share an inherent, profound need to connect with something greater than themselves and to imbue their often-chaotic lives with meaning. Moreover, religion and faith have historically played a pivotal role in unifying communities and establishing foundational norms that distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
Contemporary religious institutions do not strictly adhere to the definition of religion as the relationship between humanity and the divine (God, the Supreme Being). Examining the proportion of religious content within a “religion” is pertinent. For example, a religion that devotes the vast majority of its teachings to the divine and a minuscule part to other, secular aspects closely aligns with “true” religion. Conversely, suppose a religion barely focuses on the divine and primarily addresses other aspects of human life. In that case, it is more accurately described as a pseudo-religion—a social movement with a marginally attached transcendental component that serves a ceremonial, symbolic, or deceptive function.
Any examination of contemporary religions must account for their evident survivorship bias: the religions we recognize today have undergone three distinct phases of development. They first formalize the religion, then commercialize spirituality, and finally institutionalize it. (That is why, by the way, those who study and comprehend modern institutionalized religion either become disillusioned or, in most cases, use religion as their lucrative business.) Organized religion differs from non-institutionalized ones, much like the mafia contrasts with a lone pickpocket. It is possible to identify a religion that has not yet passed through commercialization or institutionalization but is on the verge of decline. Absent these three phases, religion cannot sustain itself.
The victors would likely have shaped the religions we witness today if they had written history. Those who did not were derided as cults, declared heretics, lost competitiveness, and ultimately vanished. Religions with a long history of partnering with states have compromised their relationship with God. Some religions that joined forces with a state eventually got bastardized by the state by imposing state-sanctioned religious rituals. Others bastardized the state by decreeing religious laws and doctrines on all citizens.
Regrettably, the marriages of all institutionalized religions to various states have irreparably damaged them. The longer a religion cohabits with a government, the less religious the population tends to become, particularly if the government proclaims it the state religion. Recall what happened to Jupiter and Zeus and their courts, even if they were part of a governing syndicate in Ancient Greece and Rome for centuries.
It is not uncommon for a particular religion to evolve over the years, transforming its foundational concept of a spiritual relationship with God(s) into a more secular one. That qualifies religion to become part of a governing coalition. Restructuring along these lines enables religion to institutionalize and penetrate government circles. The synergy between political and metaphysical powers advances both but simultaneously stifles human development, as in the Holy Roman Empire.
Note that the enduring conflict between science and faith materializes exclusively when religion becomes a de jure or de facto state religion, and “truth” is enforced doctrine. Truly independent (from the state) religions are exponentially more flexible and open to scientific inquiry and to spiritual adaptation than state-sponsored ones.
In this context, people must differentiate between religions that primarily focus on worshipping God and those that allocate significant attention to venerating other entities, such as the state. Historically, no surviving institutional religion has focused solely on admiring God; many state churches have excessively bowed to the state. Notably, Islam is distinguished by its doctrinal emphasis on obedience to both the omnipotent state and the almighty Allah, with a discernible inclination toward the state.
On the spiritual side, Islam represents an attempt to paganize God by incorporating the minor Moon deity of desert dwellers into the cohort of prominent Supreme Beings. Islam is irrational in its cruelty, but it applies solely to its theological component. The state-affiliated component is well thought out and competently organized. The theological elements of Islam have numerous inconsistencies, but the same could be said about other religions. In contrast, the Islamic structure devoted to the state is a rational, albeit cynical, embodiment of a quest to dominate the world.
Subsequently, some critics argue that the Muslims’ major book, the Quran, was initially nothing more than the Guard Duty Field Manual tailored for desert operations. Obviously, it is not a “manual” in the sense of a modern military handbook. However, the Quran and other foundational Islamic texts, such as Hadith, spend considerably more time with Muhammad, the warlord (about 5/6 of all texts) than with Allah (about 1/6 of all texts). In the Quran, religious motives are present but play a secondary role (compared to the Bible, which dwells significantly more on God than on human beings).
With a high degree of probability, the Founding Fathers were against the “establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” in precisely the manner below. First, the First Amendment prohibits the installation of a religion. Second, a religion must be a religion, not something that masquerades as one or uses religious rituals as a smokescreen for an invasive, parasitic ideology.
It has commonly been assumed that Islamic tradition revolves not around God but the phallus (the minarets are well-known embodiments of that ancient phallic culture, but current Islam’s ritual practices rarely reflect a sexualized cosmology). That is why institutionalized Islam often lionizes sexual insanity. For many commoners, Islam is associated with an army of phallo-imitators, at least toward kafirs (“unbelievers”). Instead, Islam must be viewed as an army of Führer-imitators. Modern institutionalized Islam expertly intertwines politics, theology, and phallic culture.

On one occasion, Xanthus, in a state of intoxication, wagered in the presence of his students and friends on consuming the sea. The terms of the bet stipulated that failure would result in the loss of his estate, possessions, his wife, and his wealth. Regretting his vow the following morning, Xanthus sought counsel from Aesop. Aesop provided a strategic solution, advising Xanthus to clarify that he meant to drink the sea alone, excluding the rivers and streams that flow into it. He would proceed once the crowd separated the seawater from the freshwater.
The separation between secular and theological tenets of Islam is akin to the distinction between seawater and freshwater. The word “Islam” itself means “submission.” Therefore, according to the official Washington, DC, lexicon, if Islam is well-established in America, officials would refer to it as the “Department of Submission Affairs,” or DSA. Pun intended.

Back during WWII, some members of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society were arrested and put in prison for what was written in a book, .which the Society published and distributed. And the book was banned then, too. The book was said to be treasonous, but later, was decided not to be.
As has been mentioned here before, some religions have had members arrested for some things the members practiced.

One big difference, Infidel, between Islam and Communism is this: Islam is a true religion, though iniquitous, while Communism, also iniquitous, is not a religion as religion is understood for purposes of First Amendment protection. Both are protected belief systems, as all belief systems are under the First Amendment, but no one I know of in American legal history has ever successfully argued the point that Communism is a religion for purposes of First Amendment religious protection. This is key and not to be glossed over.
As much as secular belief systems like Communism and Nazism are still protected by the First Amendment, they ARE NOT protected because they are a religion. Islam is—and why in part it’s even more of a menace than Communism and Nazism—from a First Amendment perspective, never mind a Hell of a lot of other perspectives.

I didn’t quite get your definitional differences b/w islam vs communism as far as the law goes. Consistency should be striven for: either define communism and nazism as religions, just like islam is, or define islam as a mere belief system, just like those other 2. Even the cultist attributes of islam aren’t all that different from the cultist attributes of Maoist communism
Just like birthright citizenship is being explored, so should the question of whether Islam deserves religious protection under the First Amendment. Unless and until that’s challenged, anybody opposing them will simply continue to be marginalized as “islamophobic”

Infidel: Communism and Nazism are secular belief systems that require a kind of religious devotion but they are not religions per se while Islam is. And even if somehow Islam is denied religious status, it would still be a protected belief system as are Communism and Nazism. This is why I think it key that the emphasis be placed upon the iniquity of Islam and not on its being or not being a religion.
I certainly would welcome Islam overwhelmingly be looked upon as evil irrespective of any religious status element. Besides, I think it highly unlikely that Islam will ever be denied religious First Amendment protection and thus this approach is basically a waste of time. Focus on Islam being malevolent and go from there.

In great contrast, the Bible teaches in John 1:14. “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory , the glory of the only begotten of the Father ,full of grace and truth.” Likewise John 3:16 teaches “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son… Then just a little further in verse 18 it is written about Jesus Who is “the only begotten Son of God. “ Other places in the Bible further teach that Jesus is the Son of God as in Matthew 16:15:16. Luke 1:35. John 3:36. First John 4:14. 15. 5:14,15.
Moreover, to be even more clear the Bible teaches that Jesus is the Son of God, Who is God the Father. As found in Matthew 3:16,17. First John 2:22,23. 4:14,15. Of course , it ,very much, needs to made even more specific . The Bible teaches that Jesus is also God the Son. As seen in Hebrew 1:8 and First John 5:20.
The imams and mullahs as well as the other apologists for Islam will try to “explain” this all away. As in they will try brush off all those Bible verse off by making the claim that the Bible had been corrupted, through time, by Christians and that’s why the Bible reads as it does. That claim they make actually underestimate the Power of God to protect and keep His Word safe and intact ,through time, and away from the corruption of men.

So the men marveled, saying ‘Who can this be , that even the winds and the sea obey him. ” By comparing what happened with those verses from that just quoted Psalm, the answer to the question asked by the disciples of Jesus is that He is God.
Furthermore the Bible in First Kings 8:39 teaches that “Only God Knows that thoughts of men” in the Gospel of Mark 2: 8 reveals that Jesus knows the thoughts of men.”
In conclusion the Bible does reveal to that Jesus is God and that exposes Islam’s false teaching about Jesus and therefore Islam is a false religion of demonic darkness.

I agree w/ you fully here, except maybe on one thing that you seemed to imply – that shi’a is even worse than sunni islam. The only real difference b/w them is that the former has different subsets of imams that they follow – the 5er, 7er or 12er, depending on which ones they decide to deify. While the sunnis accept everyone after Muawiya. And yeah, the 12ers have the Mahdi who lives in a well in Samarra, Iraq, and that person who is by now over a 1000 years old according to them, is the real official head of the islamic republic, and that the ayatollahs Khomenei and Khamenei were just his representatives on earth
But there is no reason to think that sunnis are any better than shi’a. Just check out ISIS, al Qaeda, muslim brotherhood, Hamas, Boko Haram,…..

I do believe we need to have this discussion. The constitution unltimately will not permit one religion to impose itself on all other religions in persuit of total domination demographically or otherwise.
One political party refuses to see the problem Islam poses their freedom and political power. They may not have a say utlimately if they continue on their present course. Perhaps the DSA will wake them up.

It seems to me that there is something going on in this which the author does not address:
objections to passing this bill, which objections that rely on the establishment clause of the US Constitution, will effectively enshrine Islam as a religious faith, rather than a political ideology. I think that is the goal of its proponents.
Islam is a hybrid ideology. Or more accurately it is an alien ideology which does not fit well into Western cultural understandings and definitions. It is to the benefit of muslims for Islam to not be recognized as a political ideology.
By pushing this bill forward, I think muslim proponents aim to force non-muslims to make, “Islam should be treated as a religion” into settled case law.

You cannot reason with Islam.
You cannot try to find common ground with Islam.
You bow to Islam or you die.
Islam is all-consuming.
You have no ‘free will’ under Islam and you give up all freedoms you might once have enjoyed.
If you are a Muslim and you renounce Islam, it becomes a death sentence, especially if you were born into Islam. If it wasn’t a death sentence to leave Islam, I doubt it would even exist, today.

Islam is by definition a religion–it is just an *evil * religion. No one ever said that every religion has to be benignant or true. Certainly, the religion of the Aztecs and worhip of Ba’al–both of which involved human sacrifice–were neither.

I have carefully read all of the comments made above.
Points made on both sides of the argument, the question is who is making the stronger points.
From a practical point of view, I would look at it this way:
Islam is an evil religious / political ideology whose ultimate goal is to force sharia on the entire world through various forms of jihad.
So, what percent of islamic practices have to be “non-jihad but solely religious” in nature in order for it to continue its qualification under US law as a bona fide religion?
The bigger problem is that purely religious islam and political islamic jihad cannot be separated.
Why?
Because the active use of jihad is a fundamental part of islam which directly violates the U.S. Constitution.
In the United States, muslims are using their “religious cover” as they attempt to destroy the United States Constitution and replace it with sharia.
One could certainly argue that islam is a religion, but it is a religion that poses a clear and present danger to the United States.
The question is this: is that enough to ban it in the United States?

That’s an excellent analysis of the question. One way might be to do what Bill Warner did and assess what percentage of islam is “religious” i.e. just about allah and what a person might do to be a better person (maybe the no alcohol, pray 5 times a day….). The part that even touches Infidels has to be declared radioactive, given everything that islam says about Kafirs. Years ago, in one of the sites, when Ali Sina was active, I recall a muslim doing an exercise of editing the qur’an to delete all its controversial verses. In the course of this exercise, he had to completely delete surah 8 & 9
You’re also very insightful in pointing out that the religious and jihadist aspects of islam cannot be really separated. For instance, when they even pray, they’re at best making snide references to Jews & Christians. Beyond that, the holiest deed for them ain’t the Ramadan fasting or the prayer 5 times a day (which includes the Fatihah I referred here) but jihad itself
While I’m not a software guy myself, I’d use a software analogy here. I often read about projects where a whole bunch of spaghetti code exists. In most of those cases, programmers trying to improve/debug them decided that that was too hairy an approach, and decided to just start from scratch, and created new projects
The religious analogy of this would be muslims just leaving islam and either

But from a government/law standpoint, it should certainly be proscribed. Other religions, like LDS, had been kept out of the US for far less

Calling the islamic cult a religion is a slap in the face for people who worship a god of peace and love rather than deception, murder, rape and violence against other humans. One only needs to look at Saudi Arabia and other countries that won’t allow any other religion in their country or even a visitor carrying a bible. Why is that? Is Islam that weak and hateful that it has to force its followers to do evil and hate in order to worship Allah? Islam is truly all about total control of all aspects of human life.
