Contrary to the RealClearPolitics headline here, he didn’t actually say that his only jihad was the struggle against medical debt. As a self-proclaimed Sharia-adherent Muslim, it can be reasonably assumed that he wants to bring Sharia here. But Katy Tur didn’t ask him that. If only we had some real journalists.

I would just love to hear from you what your faith means to you and how you think it has to do with your politics.

I think we have a responsibility to stand up and remind folks that Judaism and the Jewish people are a light unto the world, that my commitment to Jewish safety is the same as my commitment to my own daughter’s safety. I know what it’s like to be discriminated against for how I pray.
But I do reject the idea that somehow criticizing Israel and Israel’s actions and a genocide that was perpetrated by our tax dollars is the same as the idea of rejecting anybody for their faith or their identity. We have to be able to separate the two.

The U.S. has declined into a state of mediocrity, from physicians to lawyers to electricians to plumbers to car mechanics to the Amazon delivery guy. Journalists are no exception. Very few interview with hard-hitting questions. Very few write balanced and coherent articles, even when using AI as a journalistic crutch. It’s a sad state of affairs; every job seems to be performed half-assed. There is a thin crust of true achievers on the top of each profession/trade, whose work you can count on. For everything else, it’s a crap shoot!

El-Sayed is going to get much traction because he is running on fixing a broken predatory healthcare system that is leaving the young vulnerable to a life ruining debt for a serious illness, contributing to lower reproduction rates, giving corporation health plans a steep discount while soaking the uninsured with greatly higher rates, and the hospitals, physicians, and insurance companies are draining the aged patients with astronomical insurance rates. I know of a couple in their 80s who are paying $15,000/yr for medical insurance. The insurance system wants you to die in the late 60s to early 70s so it stays very profitable.
The heart of the problem is insurance companies and competing “non-profit” hospital systems looking for growth. For hospital systems enamored with growth, non-profit means spend everything and that newly built hospital is not a “profit”. Returning maximum returns to shareholders of insurance companies does not belong in a nation’s Healthcare System. We are at an impasse for insurance dictating our health system. Mamdani is focused on that.
Healthcare may be the issue credited with winning the next POTUS election and creating a socialist Healthcare system. The GOP Congress is in the Insurance corps pockets and seemingly unaware, with their own free government-provided(socialist!) Healthcare, that this issue may unseat them.

Obviously, one doesn’t have to agree w/ all, or even most of Israel’s policies. Indeed, I opposed the bulk of them when they were lead by Peres, Barak, Sharon, Olmert… Even today, I oppose Israel’s alliance w/ Azerbaijan against Armenia. But there is a difference b/w opposing Israeli policies on anything, vs Israel’s very existence as a Jewish state
The people opposed to Israel who claim that they support “Palestine” are not doing that in a vacuum. If they were, all that Israel would have needed to do would have been to change its name to “Palestine” and everything might have been hunky dory. But what they want is that Israel not be a Jewish state, w/ open-ended invitations to Jews all over the world, and that it become an Arab muslim majority country, so that it’s no different in that regard from other multi-ethnic and multi-religious Arab countries like Iraq, Syria and Lebanon
Factor that unstated desire behind those demands, and couple it w/ the fact that there would be no homeland for Jews worldwide to go to, even as they get increasingly bullied by muslims in all those places that they move in, and one would see why being anti-Israel does result in being anti-Jewish
