Zelensky’s claim is not at all implausible, as Russia has been working with the Islamic Republic of Iran for years. Like numerous other non-Muslim rulers throughout history, Putin apparently thinks that he can use the jihadis for his own purposes, and then rein them in if they begin to threaten his own power. Like numerous other non-Muslim rulers throughout history, he could be in for a rude awakening.
“Russia assisting Iran’s Islamic regime, Zelensky says after Ukrainian attack on ship,” by Seth J. Frantzman, Jerusalem Post, July 26, 2026:
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of assisting the Iranian regime on July 25. It is not the first time that the Russia-Iran partnership has been highlighted. Russia and Iran have been working together for decades.
However, Ukraine’s decision to highlight the relationship comes as Iran has threatened Ukraine with potential missile attacks in response to it attacking an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea.
Zelensky wrote on X/Twitter on July 25 that “I will instruct our intelligence to share with our partners the information we have regarding Russia’s new assistance to the Iranian regime. Since the beginning of July, we have recorded active Russian satellite surveillance of the Gulf states and US military facilities located there.”
He added that “these images subsequently appear in Iran. At the same time, there is a clear correlation between Russia’s satellite imagery of these sites and Iranian strikes – both before the attacks, in preparation for them, and afterward, to assess the damage inflicted.”
The Ukrainian leader went on to say that “On July 19 and 20 alone, four air bases fell within the area of interest of Russian satellites – two in Bahrain, one in Jordan, and one in Kuwait.
“The purpose is clear. None of us in the world should turn a blind eye to one very simple fact: evil always seeks ways to make things worse and spread further. Russia must be stopped. This war must be stopped. Pressure on the aggressor must work.”
Yaroslav Trofimov, chief foreign affairs correspondent of The Wall Street Journal, wrote that “the two wars have officially merged. Iran says a Ukrainian drone attack on its ship in the Caspian has killed a sailor. Ukraine earlier said it was targeting vessels ferrying arms between Russia and Iran on the Caspian Sea.”…

I actually doubt Zelenskyy here, even though my respect for him has grown from what it was 2 years ago. But given what he has managed to do to Russia, I doubt that Putin is in any position to aid the islamic regime fight anybody – be it the US, the Arab countries or its own citizens
Since a couple of days, I have been following details of the Ukraine war. While Crimea is not getting reoccupied, it has been effectively isolated to the point that Russians are fleeing the peninsula, and even the Black Sea Fleet has relocated from Sevastopol to Novorossiya. Fuel and power supply to the peninsula has been completely cut, making it unlivable out there
The other major thing I learned today is that in addition to using drones and AI operators of those drones and amphibious vehicles, Ukraine is also extending the range of those drones, which is expected to be over 6000 miles over the next 2 years. At those ranges, we are talking ranges of ICBMs, and at that point, nowhere in Russia is safe – from Moscow to Vladivostok to the Bering Sea. Heck, Kyiv could, just for kicks, totally flatten the Big Diomene island, which is a Russian military outpost in the Bering Strait before Little Diomede, which is a part of Alaska, and just humiliate Russia even more
Also at this point, I wonder where exactly is either Iran or Russia getting anything that they can give each other. Both of them are oil rich countries that are now struggling to provide their own citizens w/ fuel, let alone export any. If anything, Russia has been importing refined oil from their processing facility in India, and getting it routed through the Suez and Gibraltar all the way around to Murmansk. They can’t supply fuel to most of their regions, as Ukraine has been merrily lighting up any oil refinery it fancies, the farthest so far being Omsk. And Kyiv can just as easily light up fuel trucks driving from Murmansk to St Petersburg, or anywhere else
Similarly, Iran is struggling to get fuel to its citizens, and inflation is now 66%. The subsidies that people were getting for gas is about to expire, which will see their prices shoot even higher. On top of that, yesterday, the US bombed Ḥashd ash-Shaʿbī – the Popular Mobilization Forces – the Iraqi militia used by the IRGC to massacre people in Tehran on January 8-9th. Soon enough, the IRGC won’t get even foreign fighters. Yet yesterday, there they were, hanging 4 people in Isfahan for their part in the January 8-9th uprisings
Hopefully, both these regimes will fall soon. Hopefully a coup in the Kremlin removes Putin and replaces him w/ someone willing to end the war, while in Iran, every layer of the islamic leadership is eliminated so that the Pahlavi transition team can move in and start the exercise of helping Iran recover from these 47 years of tyranny

Zelensky wants ww3 to save his own ass
Westman says
Quite right, 40. Zelensky has asked several times for actions from the US, UK, and EU that would have resulted in WW3.
He is just realizing there was never any intent to support Ukraine beyond materiel and money. Yet, the coalition of the willing could still manage to stumble into WW3.

At this point, not any more. He has taken the war to Russia, and given the relative sizes of the 2 countries, I’d say that he’s “winning”, even if he hasn’t won yet. Even if Putin wins the September elections and kicks off Mobilization i.e. conscription, Ukraine has still degraded Russia’s logistical backup to just about everything military
The blowup b/w him & Trump last year led to Ukraine starting to pioneer making its own defenses, particularly anti-drone weapons and their own drones, as well as improvising techniques to bypass Russian defenses. Watched a video last night on “The Military Show” Youtube channel on how they destroyed the armored vehicles protecting the Kerch bridge, as well as knocked out the entry lanes into Crimea: the only traffic on that bridge right now is out of Crimea. Similarly, no place in Russia seems safe any more, even if Moscow & St Petersburg are, and even that won’t last too long either
Westman says
The tit for tat attacks don’t matter in the long run, Russia has more arms, soldiers, and infrastructure it’s willing to spend than Ukraine and NATO combined. It’s unfortunate but still a fact of Russian nature, underestimated by Hitler and underestimated by NATO since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The EU will not spend its youth on Ukraine or purposely get directly involved fighting Russia, which would, without hesitation, bomb that EU nation. And all this silliness about Ukraine making Patriot missiles, it will take at least two years, and would not happen before the war is over.
Ukraine is now economically landlocked, the Odessa ports permanently gone for exports.

True or not, he wants the U.S. to go to war with Russia for him.
Ernie says
No , that’s not true Bubble Buster . Zelenski wants ( needs)support in many fields ( arms delivery systems , intelligence ,education/training etc.) , but the fighting will be done by the Ukrainians . Ukrainians are a very brave and resourceful people , they deserve our support . They didn’t start this war . We , Europe , support Ukraine in this war , and I’m proud we do so !

A year ago, or even months ago, I’d have agreed w/ you
However, after the meltdown meeting w/ Trump last year, he had been distancing Ukraine from the US but aligning it more w/ the EU. So he has been getting 🇪🇺 money and weaponry, but aside from that, Ukraine has been developing its own. As I noted yesterday, once the Iran war started, Ukraine started taking a lot more liberties in taking the war to Russia, and has been using drones to bomb all sorts of targets in Russia – from military bases to oil refineries to Wildberry warehouses. They’ve also made Crimea simply unlivable for Russians, who have been streaming out, forced the Black Sea Fleet to leave Sevastopol and relocate to Novorossiysk, and even hit targets not only in the Caspian Sea, but as far as Omsk
If anything, I bet that Israel wishes that the US was in the midst of the Ukraine war right now, in which case they would have had a free hand in doing whatever they wanted in Iran

It’s not Russia’s first awakening, fighting a past war with Muslim Chechnya. The amazing part is Chechnya volunteers are fighting FOR Russia in Ukraine. Muslims respect unwavering power, even if grudgingly.
I think Russia has turned a corner in the Ukraine war, large missile & drone attacks, almost nightly and sometimes in daylight. The recent missile that went off-course and landed in Poland is a direct result of the increased size of the barrages, if it is indeed, Russian.
It’s easy to see the Wildberry attacks were the last straw and the current objective is to render Ukraine’s economy as dead as possible and the country’s infrastructure unprepared for winter. Of course, the Ukraine economy cannot be reduced to zero since the government and pensioners are being supported by money from the US and EU/NATO nations.
Putinca few days ago, publicly spoke to his elites and effectively said Russia will be stepping up the war, to which they applauded and gave verbal confirmation. That’s serious. It’s likely that any Western nation which sends troops or fires missiles into Russia will receive a military response. WW3 has begun on simmer though the media of all nations involved keep spitting out government lines to the citizens.
Zalensky: “The purpose is clear. None of us in the world should turn a blind eye to one very simple fact: evil always seeks ways to make things worse and spread further. Russia must be stopped. This war must be stopped. Pressure on the aggressor must work.”
Translation: “We are losing. I want your sons to die for Ukraine”. Why aren’t the NATO counties youth signing up? Because the plan was always for the West to fight the war to the last Ukrainian and win from afar. Like the dog that tries to catch the car which suddenly stops, EU/NATO doesn’t know what to do when it’s unexpectedly obvious Ukraine will lose if the war isn’t stopped.
