This shouldn’t be a controversial statement.
I’m not even saying that no Muslim country should have a nuclear program. I’m just saying that no Muslim country with a history of funding and producing a bunch of Islamic terrorists should have a nuclear program.
Obviously that ship already sailed once Pakistan got its nukes. But considering that the Saudis provided most of the manpower for 9/11, they labored to free their terrorists from U.S. custody in Gitmo and then sent them to cushy ‘rehabs’, and they’ve funded Islamist organizations in America and around the world.
The Saudis, like the Iranians, don’t need nuclear power. They’ve got all the energy they need. They want a nuclear program to counterbalance Iran. Which will be a messy business.
Yes, MBS is better than what preceded him, but while some matters have liberalized in Saudi Arabia, especially for women, and there’s more open cultural looseness, as opposed to the former double standard where the elites and their western guests could do whatever they wanted in private (but permission to do so could be pulled at any minute), it would be a stretch to say that the Saudis are out of the Jihad business. There have been some domestic crackdowns, but mainly where they affect the regime, and even assuming that MBS is trustworthy, the Kingdom is one coup away from having a much worse government.
Remember, 9/11 was less about us and more about Osama bin Laden getting the momentum for an overthrow of the Saudis. His big grievance was with the Saudi kingdom. More recently, the whole Jamal Khashoggi affair was a Qatari plot to oust MBS and have their hard line allies seize power in Saudi Arabia. Those guys didn’t go away just because Jamal was taken out by the Saudis.
In the Middle East, it’s not whether a coup will happen, but when. The Gulf monarchies have used their money to forestall any domestic problems (something Egypt and the North Africans had more trouble doing) but one of their tricks has been to divert the Jihadis to fighting infidels, whether in America or Israel or Syria.
Finally, the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists tend to be heavily concentrated around doctors, lawyers and engineers. (If you notice all the Muslim ‘doctors’ involved in politics in America, that’s why.) Even assuming a stable government, having a nuclear program with any possibility of enriching uranium is a major security risk. And we’re likely to be a major target.
President Trump has said that the deal will be conditional on normalization with Israel. That’s nice for Israel, but it’s still a horrible idea for anyone who doesn’t want Muslim terrorists getting their hands on radioactive materials.

I tacitly agree, but KT McFarland suggested the Saudis will get it somewhere else if we do not assist. The Saudis have absolutely no loyalty to anyone but their selves. If we do not assist them, they have no problems going to the Chinese, the Russians, or even the North Koreans for help in establishing their end goal. McFarland, I think is correct in that if we assist them, we will (hopefully) be able to control them.

I think you are right. Unlike Israel which is stuck w/ the US, due to Russian alliances w/ the islamic republic, Saudi Arabia is free to ally w/ Russia and China, and in fact did in 2022 w/ Russia against Ukraine. Although at this point, no country can count on Russia, which is losing to Ukraine, and I daresay that that is stopping Beijing in its tracks

Personally, because of what the qur’an teaches and what the hadith say, I don’t think any muslim majority country should be allowed to have a nuclear program of any kind.

Saudi Arabia, Iran, the UAE and Qatar fund most of the ME terrorism while Pakistan has 100 million illiterates suitable for jihad. Islam needs to grow up if they want to avoid recriminations.

I can recall, though my memory is sometimes faulty about minor details, when all of the talk was about terrorists getting a ‘dirty bomb.’ How much damage, how much terror, how many deaths……and *fear* was that the terrorists were “close.”
Now, nuclear power is discussed so easily, it’s as if the power is no more than a pea-shooter held by a 13 year old boy.
muzzlims learn terror, even if a few never murder anyone, rape anyone or praise those who do.

Iran has enough enriched uranium for at least eleven ‘dirty bombs’. They boasted about it to Bessent. How much death and destruction can be caused by just one bomb enriched to sixty percent? People here in America think they are protected by the Atlantic Ocean, but we’re not. Even if Iran managed hit Israel, how much surrounding territory would be contaminated for years, if not decades? NOt being a nuclear scientist, I’m just guessing that something like this can harm many countries along the Mediterranean. And Iran would have ten more in storage.

The US State Department’s official list of state sponsors of terrorism is a short one: Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria. Can it be said that Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Yemen and many other countries in Africa and Asia are ‘sponsoring’ terrorist groups? Atoms for Peace under Eisenhower promulgated the spread of nuclear knowledge/ As I understand it, the NPT permitted countries to enrich uranium for nuclear power and for medicnal purposes. Is it enough to say that no sponsor of terrorism can have a nuclear program? Like it or not, Iran is in the nuclear club right now. Knowledge cannot be contained.

I know that Saudi Arabia has been somewhat improving since their jihad eras, but I’m still not comfortable w/ them being a nuclear partner. In fact, once Iran has a new government – probably Pahlavi’s, it’s Saudi Arabia that could be more dangerous. Although Turkey too has nuclear programs, and it’s a lot more belligerent than Saudi Arabia

100% agree. That’s why the Saudi’s have so beautifully diflected popular opinion to blaming Israel for 9/11. Speaking of which, i was flabergasted that The CHD, formerly, RFK jr’s baby, did a 9/11 piece where the guest slyly accused Israel. I let them know how wrong that was. It simply amazes me how normalized Anti-semitism has become. What is extremely frustrating is how little people use their brains, and how easily opinions are formed without proper research. I had an argument with a teacher of Religions recently, at a Kosher food lecture mind you, he has never read the quran, yet teaches about it in all his wokeness pride. 🤦
