The Islamic Republic of Iran is continuing to project an image of absolute impunity, as if it had emerged victorious from its war with the United States, and was now going to proceed, Nuremberg Trial-style, to punish those who said publicly that this war was necessary. If public figures in any other country had been targeted, there would be an international outcry. But because most of Iran’s targets are considered “right-wing,” the international left, including its media apparatus, has no problem with these murderous threats at all.

This is why the primary goal of Trump should have been complete and total regime change in Iran. Frankly, it looks ever increasingly like Trump has goofed big time. At the very least, I don’ see how anyone any longer can say that Trump is looking really good where Iran is concerned.

The stupidest move has been giving the islamic regime a 60 day sanctions waiver, which has allowed them to resume oil sales to China. That money is now used in the vanity international funeral tour of Ali Khamenei. While even the IRGC/Basij members (forget ordinary Iranian citizens) are going w/o pay, the proceeds from those oil sales are being used to fly Khamenei’s remains to shi’a pilgrim sites in Iraq, before it’s flown to Mashhad for ultimate burial
Besides the funeral, this sanctions waiver will only delay the collapse of the regime, probably beyond November. By which time, the Dems could have a majority in both houses to do anything from ending the war to impeaching Trump a third time
At this point, the best thing Trump/Vance can do – since Vance is obviously the one calling the shots – is to just withdraw US troops, and let Israel do whatever it seems necessary as far as Iran goes

I comprehend, Infidel, that for a year or more you have thought that Trump should not have restricted Israel from doing what it has to do. I am in agreement with you here and a major reason why I don’t have as high an opinion of Trump as I once did (though he is still far preferable than any Democrat in the Oval Office).
More and more I see Trump as an “LBJ type,” i.e., a great wheeler-dealer who thinks he can make a deal with anyone. LBJ himself said that if only he could sit down with Ho Chi Minh they could iron something out. LBJ didn’t understand that with some people the only way to proceed is to eliminate them. Ditto I regretfully say with Trump.

Yes, and that appears to be his blind spot.
Over the years, Pres. from has made “deals” with decent people – and not so decent people.
But at least those kind of people were rational.
He does not appear to understand that very devout muslims are not rational – and cannot be reasoned with.
I hope that he learns this truism quickly, but I am not optimistic.

I don’t think it is out of the norm for America though. We made deals with communists in the Cold War. Romania, Yugoslavia and others.

My understanding here, Taffy, is that these scenes are from Iran. The Secret Service is not operative there but the US military could be, should be. Put another way, Trump held back but he shouldn’t have. Should have gone the Ulysses S. Grant route of unconditional surrender.
