For the past 2½ years, the Israelis have been insisting that many of those in Gaza who claimed to be journalists, and whose reports on the war much of the mainstream media in the West relied on, were in fact journalists only part-time, but terrorists full-time. As the evidence for this piled up, the defenders of those “journalists” at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) have had an increasingly hard time of it. The CPJ has produced a list of 207 people whom it described as “journalists killed by the IDF.” The Israelis have insisted that many people on the list were members of Hamas. Their misreporting was essential to the terror group’s propaganda effort. Now the CPJ has had to surrender. After nearly three years of accusing Israel of targeting journalists – an accusation the international media repeated uncritically – the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has finally acknowledged what HonestReporting has been actively documenting: many of the 207 Gazan “journalists” it counted as casualties were affiliated with terrorist organizations.
Against this backdrop, board member Nika Soon-Shiong has been removed from her position. As the publisher of Drop Site News, Soon-Shiong has been extremely active in proliferating her anti-Israel views among a wider audience.
In an X post acknowledging her removal from the board, Soon-Shiong referenced a Washington Free Beacon article that noted her vocal accusations of genocide and apartheid against Israel, which she continues to defend.
Soon-Shiong went further, claiming it’s impossible to say with certainty that “Hamas wants to kill all Jews.” Hamas disagrees. The terror group has said exactly that, repeatedly, including in a recent manifesto justifying October 7. This manifesto was promoted by Drop Site itself.
Despite Soon-Shiong’s clear disappointment at being called out for her own behavior, what the Free Beacon piece really did was draw greater attention to the subtle removal of terrorists who were listed as journalists by the CPJ….
The mountain of evidence that Honest Reporting provided, showing that a majority of the “journalists killed in Gaza” that the CPJ listed were undeniably members of Hamas or other terrorist groups, became too huge to deny. The first member that the CPJ jettisoned because of this evidence was Nika Soon-Shiong, who has been most implacably anti-Israel and who continued to insist, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that all of those Gazans claiming to only be journalists were telling the truth.
Soon-Shiong claims that someone affiliated with a terrorist group who is not an active combatant is protected by international law. She has that wrong. People who are members of terrorist groups, even if not fighters, should be seen as forming an essential part of a terrorist machine, and thus are lawful targets.
Let’s wait to see which news organizations — the BBC? The New York Times? ABC? — that previously relied on “journalists” in Gaza who have now been proven to be Hamas-affiliated, will now admit they were wrong, and will provide further details on those “journalists” whom the indefatigable researchers at Honest Reporting have so far identified as Hamas members. So far, 112 of the 207 people whom the CPJ had previously identified as “journalists” whom the IDF killed have turned out to be Hamas-linked, and Honest Reporting is not nearly done with its research. This constitutes one more victory for the truth. There are so many more battles of that kind that Israel needs to win.
