We have seen mobs beat people for burning the Qur’an before, and a Muslim or Muslims murdered Salwan Momika for doing so, but beating and arresting someone for burning a Qur’an commentary is something new. Leave it to Bangladesh to be on the cutting edge of global innovation. Of course, the commentary contains multiple quotations from the Qur’an; so now, apparently, any book that even quotes the Qur’an is sacrosanct, and you’re talking your life in your hands if you harm it. What a dilemma this poses to Muslims regarding books that quote the Qur’an in Arabic and yet are critical of it.

Police arrested the accused after three volumes of Tafhimul Quran were allegedly set on fire at Dhaka University early today.
A Dhaka court today (10 July) sent a man to jail in a case filed over hurting religious sentiments by setting fire to three volumes of ‘Tafhimul Quran’ at Dhaka University….
No lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused, Mehedi Hasan, 31, during the hearing, SI Alam said.
Shahbagh Police Station Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hasan produced Mehedi before the court and sought an order to keep him in jail until the investigation was completed, the SI added.
According to the case statement, the incident took place around 1am near the west side of Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University, where three volumes of Tafhimul Quran, written by Jamaat founder Syed Abul Ala Maududi, were set on fire.
People who gathered at the scene detained Mehedi….
Police said Mehedi suffered minor injuries after being beaten by the crowd…

By this, it would be a threat to life to write a verse from the book of demon filth on a scrap of paper and then set it on fire.

Burning an Islamic book can lead to consequences however Islam can do whatever it pleases with no consequences and has since its beginning.
