A UN commission claims that Israel is trying to destroy the “Palestinian” population in Gaza: “New UN inquiry: Israel ‘deliberately’ killed Palestinian children, resulting in genocide,” by Mathilda Heller and Yonah Jeremy Bob, Jerusalem Post, June 23, 2026:

This is farcical: “electrocuted through a needle inserted into his shoulder” is preposterous. But the commission was determined to take seriously every charge against the IDF, no matter how idiotic.
The UN report also seemingly blames Israel for child marriage rates in Gaza: “As the situation in Gaza has sharply increased child marriage and early pregnancy… It has, in turn, severely impacted the mental health of girls, exposing them to physical, psychological, and sexual violence.”
Why should Israel be blamed for the rise in the incidence of child marriage in Gaza? The UN report simply says that “the situation in Gaza has sharply increased child marriage and early pregnancy” which, in turn, has harmed the mental health of girls? I fail to see the connection between the military conflict — which, let us remember, began on October 7, 2023 when 6,000 members of Hamas smashed into Israel, and proceeded to gang-rape, torture, mutilate, and murder 1,200 people, and kidnap another 251 who were taken back to Gaza. Are the girls eager to be married and have children at a younger age because they fear their possible husbands might die in the war? Could be. But so what? Hamas started a war Israel did not want, and all the IDF is doing in Gaza is defending the Jewish state and its people.
There was also significant focus on Israel’s alleged targeting of schools and hospitals, with no acknowledgment or discussion of Hamas’s use of hospitals, schools, and humanitarian zones for military purposes.
The schools the IDF targets are, more exactly, school buildings that have ceased to function as schools. They are places where Hamas hides its combatants, its weapons, and its rocket launchers. These UNRWA schools have thus become legitimate military targets. The IDF does not attack schools that are still being used as schools. As for hospitals, it is no secret that Hamas takes over wings of hospitals where, as with the UNRWA schools, it hides its operatives, and extensive weaponry. The IDF has published photos of those arsenals found in hospitals. Israel does not attack “hospitals” but, rather, the rooms or wings of hospitals that have been turned into outposts for Hamas. During a siege by the IDF of the Al-Shifa hospital, 900 Hamas combatants ultimately surrendered. They had been hiding in one wing of the hospital. Should that part of the hospital been treated as a “hospital” or as what, in truth, it was — a military outpost? Depending on its actual use, a school may no longer be a school, a hospital may no longer be only a hospital.
The Commission concluded that, based on the evidence reviewed, and consistent with its previous reports, there are “reasonable grounds that the Israeli authorities and the Israeli security forces have continued to commit the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip and war crimes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.”…
“Genocide” requires intent: the deliberate targeting of a whole people for death. There has been no such targeting by the IDF in Gaza. The IDF does everything it can to minimize civilian deaths, using millions of leaflets, text messages, and robocalls to warn about sites about to be targeted. It has allowed into Gaza 1.3 million tons of food aid. It has helped transfer children who require specialized medical treatment from Gaza to hospitals in Israel and in Jordan. All of that fatally vitiates the charge of “genocide.”
This UN commission consists of exactly three people, all of whom are known for their anti-Israel animus. They rely on Hamas for most of their information. They did not permit the Israelis to read the report before it was issued. They believe, or claim to, that Israel deliberately kills children in Gaza. There is no evidence of this. There is a mountain of evidence that Israel does more to protect civilians, as Professor John Spencer of West Point concluded, than “any other military in the history of warfare.”
Of course, some children have been killed, but what counts is whether the IDF intended to kill them. Of course it does not. Sometimes it hits an apartment where it knows a Hamas big shot is hiding, and only later does it discover that some family members, including children, were with him when the IDF bomb or missile struck. The commission insists that “children” include males from the ages of sixteen to eighteen, but such “children” are fully as capable as adults to use weapons against the IDF. Imagine that you are an IDF soldier. Suddenly someone fires from you from inside a house. Or leaps out of a tunnel exit and fires at you. Do you stop to try to figure out exactly how old the person firing at you is? Of course not. You fire back.
