When the police say that an incident involving a Muslim committing an act of violence is not terror-related, they generally mean that the perpetrator is not a known member of a jihad terrorist group. Incidents in which the perp screamed “Allahu akbar,” had a Qur’an in his backpack, etc., are often dismissed as “not terror-related” because of this lack of any connection to jihad groups; the idea of a “lone wolf” jihad attack is often ignored, despite the frequent calls from the Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaeda to Muslims in the West to commit such attacks.
Anyway, so Almunthir Daqamah’s crossbow attack is not terror-related. There is also the fact that as a Saudi national, Daqamah grew up in a culture that teaches that the only and only god commands his followers to commit acts of violence in certain cases, and that such violence in those cases is considered a holy act that will receive a reward in paradise. In light of that, is it really all that surprising that in response to a personal setback, he would resort to violence?

A former university student has appeared in court, charged with attempted murder after a staff member was shot in the stomach with a crossbow.
Almunthir Daqamah allegedly carried out Thursday morning’s shooting after he was asked to vacate the University of Surrey’s student accommodation, the prosecution said.
The 21-year-old Saudi national has been charged with attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon, two counts of possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs….
A man in his 50s, who is a member of the university’s campus safety team, was seriously injured in the shooting….
Daqamah allegedly shot the man in the stomach with a single crossbow bolt, prosecutor Lucy Lumsden said….
Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “We know how concerning this incident is, both for the university community and for local residents here in Guildford, and our officers are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of what occurred.
“There is nothing to suggest this incident is terror-related and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”…

I have heard that In the U.S. some Saudi students who get into trouble, and face charges of reckless driving that results in someone’s bodily harm, or of sexual assault or rape, or of mistreating their domestic servants, have been whisked home by a Saudi-government-provided plane before they can be put on trial.

Saudi? I had read that they had stopped all their foreign funding due to their financial crisis, and more recently, have even had to scale back a lot of their projects. I’d have thought Qatar, but the IRGC has severely destroyed 1/3rd of their gas production capacity. I’d think that the Saudi government just gets them back home to pre-empt questions from angry Americans on why those Saudis were here in the first place

At this point, King Charles III has advanced stage of cancer, and according to royal-watchers in Britain, the Prince of Wales William has been taking over more powers, and is almost a “regent” (in the reverse sense of the term). In other words, Charles may be about as influential as King Salman in Saudi Arabia, whereas like MbS, Will is the one mainly wielding the royal power, as was evident on moves w/ both Harry & Andrew. So what King Charles is, is at this point immaterial
As far as Will goes, he has visited mosques, which is not good. Otoh, he’s said to be agnostic, and doesn’t take any interest in the religious aspects of his royal duties. On the positive side, he’s said nothing about being the “Defender of Faiths” like his dad. But just from a secular POV, he could draw a distinction b/w saying anything about islam vs standing up for (real) law & order in his country and advocating the aggressive prosecution of criminals – regardless of what Labour or Reform may think about it
