Erdogan’s goal of reviving the Ottoman Empire will not be fully realized if Israel continues to exist, for its land was once part of that empire. Thus when Erdogan says “May Allah, for the sake of his name … destroy and devastate Zionist Israel,” he is trying to garner support for military action against Israel, which he will be able to cast as an execution of Allah’s wrath against the Jews who are the Muslims’ worst enemies (cf. Qur’an 5:82). The Qur’an states that Allah will punish the infidels through the hands of the believers (9:14-15). So when he asks Allah to destroy Israel, he is really calling upon Muslims to destroy Israel.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s rhetoric toward the Jewish state has become increasingly hostile. Most recently, he condemned Israel’s “piracy and banditry” when it stopped another flotilla heading toward Gaza. He said on May 14, that Israel is “trampling on humanity’s shared values.” On March 30, 2025, during a prayer service to mark the end of Ramadan, he said: “May Allah, for the sake of his name … destroy and devastate Zionist Israel.”

None of those words are true because Muhammad spoke of respect for the people of the book (Jews & Christians )after he became a “chosen one” to bring peace and tranquility to those around him but upon his death the Quran was written with words of death to those same people beyond the borders of Arabia .

I wonder what Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq think about the revival of the Ottoman Empire. I don’t think Turkish rule over those countries was any picnic for them. They should be making common cause with Israel over doing whatever can be done to prevent the calamity of its return.

That’s why Turkey’s rise to prominence around Trump’s first term alarmed most of them, and they rallied around Saudi Arabia, w/ some notable exceptions – Yemen, Qatar, Somalia, Balestine,…. Somehow, Saudi Arabia, Egypt & others seem to have forgotten this Turkish threat. Either that, or Erdogan has stopped playing the Ottoman hand, and is just playing the islamic aspect of it

Let Erdogan read the Jewish Old Testament and he will then discover which Israelite Judges and Kingdoms in the post Mosaic period have ruled over the land between Jordan and Mediterranean until 67 AD, centuries before Islam saw the light of this world…And after all those Jews initially came from Ur in Mesopotamia and were brothers and sisters of the surrounding population. So why is this pround Erdogan unable to understand the historical roots of it all? The Jewish faith on which christianity is also based, is centuries older than Islam and is definitely in no need of the latter.
