Trump’s Bizarre Statements in Defending the MoU With Iran

President Donald Trump at the G-7 meeting and afterward has provided the world with his thoughts on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran. It was quite a performance. He praised Qatar, the Arab state that provides financial support to Hamas and refuge for the terror group’s senior leaders. Trump, addressing the Qataris, proclaimed that “I will always be your friend.” He denounced Israel, claiming that Israel’s strikes against the jihad group nearly broke the U.S.’s negotiations with Iran. “Why did Bibi have to do a f—ing attack? I was so pissed off. I let him know. He has no f—ing judgement,” Trump raged.

This is deceptive. He is not asking the Gulf Arab states to directly provide Iran with money, but he will help find private parties in those states to invest up to $300 billion in Iran.

Trump said that the MoU is “great for a lot of reasons, but number one, by far… is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”…

He cals the MoU “great for a lot of reasons.” Don’t let him forget that remark.

Trump also discussed regime change, claiming that he “never cared” about it….

Trump now denies that regime change in Iran ever mattered to him, declaring that he “never cared about it.” Has he forgotten his promise on Truth Social to the anti-regime protesters in January that — all caps — “HELP IS ON ITS WAY”? Does he have any idea the effect of his new claim that he “never cared about regime change” will have on Iranians desperate for the regime to be overthrown, and wanting some signs of support, and now Trump, for no good reason, has left them in total despair? He could have said something else: “I was hoping for regime change after the nationwide protests in January, but then the government killed 40,000 of its own people. I hoped again after the battering Iran received in February from us and from the Israelis. But a reign of terror for now keeps the fanatics in control. Now I know it will take longer, but I haven’t given up hope, and I haven’t forgotten what the people of Iran want. And eventually they will get it.”

“I guess you have regime change because… the first group, they’re all dead, the second group, they’re dead, and part of the third group is gone,” he added.

The killing by Israel and the U.S. of various members of the Islamic Republic’s civilian leadership and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has not changed any policies in Tehran. That is not “regime change,” as Trump tries half-jokingly to insist. If anything, Iran analysts uniformly claim that the regime has not changed, but only hardened.

Trump says the ones now in power in Tehran are “very rational people.” No, they are Muslim fanatics, they are —pace Trump — “radicalized,” and they are not “looking to help their country,” but to remain in power no matter what. These people who were “very nice to deal with” are willing to sacrifice the welfare of the entire civilian population of Iran in order to arm the country to the teeth. The regime’s priorities are clear: it is willing to have its population sink ever further into poverty while spending fantastic sums on weapons. Iran has spent on its nuclear program alone close to $100 billion. And tens of billions of dollars have been spent spent on its ballistic missile program, its drones, and other armaments. As for calling the Iranians “very nice to deal with” — such self-deception leaves one gasping.

“I’ve watched regime changes for years – they never work,” he stated.

Regime change “never works”? Doesn’t he think that the regime change in Washington, from Biden’s administration to that of Trump, has “worked”? What about “regime change” in South Africa, from Willem de Klerk to Nelson Mandela — did that not work? The “regime change” in Germany from Hitler to Konrad Adenauer surely “worked,” as did that change from Vichy France to a liberated France under the Third Republic. Did regime change in Italy, from the Fascist rule of Mussolini, to a brief Monarchist rule, and then to the true democracy ushered in with the election of Alcide De Gasperi, not work? What about the change of regime in Poland, when Lech Walesa led a popular revolt that undid Communist rule? Or all the “regime changes” in the former Communist states of central and eastern Europe? Of course Trump knows almost none of this. He is not interested in history, and knows very little of it, even of the history of the last century. He is the leader of the Know-Nothings.

  6. Well, for the only time ever here at JW I am posting an article for the second time on another thread. It’s important, I would contend, to take into account what this article avers about Trump’s deal with Iran.

    Look, either Trump ordinarily knows exactly what he is doing or he doesn’t, not just with Iran but with the entire Middle East, or for that matter with the entire world, including Russia and China. Frankly, I lean in the direction of Trump not knowing what’s he’s doing at least some of the time but what if it is the case he has out-snookered everyone all of the time, including the Democrats (not hard to do), Xi, Putin, the EU (again not hard to do), certainly the thugs sill running the single biggest pain-in-the ass nation on Earth, i.e. Iran, et al.?

    Yeah, what if? Remember, Trump has made the single greatest comeback in American political history—and American politics is a major blood sport and Trump has not only survived in this arena but has succeeded and prospered.

    I neither want to overestimate Trump nor underestimate the man. That he is unique only fools or worse would argue to the contrary. Frankly, the man has me filled with many mixed thoughts and feelings. But what if he is smarter than any of us? If you think this not possible, then ask yourself this: Who could have accomplished what Trump has done so far? None, I submit (not meant in an Islamic way), could have.

    The man, a la Churchill, is a mystery inside a puzzle wrapped up in a conundrum. Frankly, I don’t like this because as I already wrote to a long-term and respected commenter here at JW, one “somehistory,” I very much dislike uncertainty.

    • At this point speculation is the only hope but in the meantime he has demoralised iranians, Israelis and some Americans with this charade.

      I do think this is a head fake by the administration. I think they’re putting on this show of embracing the islamic regime & deliberately distancing Israel in order to make the world think that US policy has completely changed. They seem to base this on the confidence that the islamic regime remnants can’t help themselves, and will lash out probably against Israel either directly or from Lebanon. That alone would violate the MOU and then greenlight the completion of the regime’s overthrow

      That’s why I’m not jumping on the anti-Trump bandwagon, although I do denounce most of his statements since made, on the assumption that no regime change ultimately happens in Iran (and no, Virginia, replacing Khamenei w/ Vahidi/Ghalibaf/Pezeshkian is not regime change). If it doesn’t, then I’m on the same page as Robert, Hugh and everyone here who has denounced these moves so far

      One thing that doesn’t ring true – Qatar’s reaction. Yeah, Qatar had been an ally of the islamic regime. But that was before the latter knocked off 1/3 of their LNG facilities. Since then, Qatar has heavily downgraded diplomatic relations and “declared war”, even though they didn’t launch any attacks on the islamic republic. It seems ludicrous to think that the same regime, whose ruler sat w/ Trump when he called on Syria to take on Hizbullah, would ask Trump to go easy on the islamic regime

      Also, as someone else pointed out, Qatar doesn’t have $19 trillion to give to US: their total GDP is $217 billion, as per Gemini. I do genuinely wonder whether Trump grasps the magnitude of a trillion?

      • Infidel, you and other friends of mine have suggested the same headfake possibility. I can see this as being entirely plausible.
        I hope that you are correct for the sake of all that is good..
        His remarks have been so sickeningly sweet that there has to be some other vector in play that I cannot envision.
        As I said, I certainly hope all of you are right.

      I believe that that is the most likely scenario.

  7. Something is terribly wrong here that cannot be logically explained. Trump‘s about face Is giving up the win that United States and Israel almost had in the bag!

    And, if we have to withdraw and then come back when I ran starts acting up, it will cost $billions and $billions more money to restart, instead of an additional 10% effort to mop up and achieve our initial goals.

    Vance by supporting this insanity has lost my vote. On the other hand, Marco Rubio seems to be stunned at what Trump is doing.

    With this “deal,“ Iran will be back to its pre-war days In about two years. The only thing that the United States can count on is that the Fordo and Natanz facilities will not be enriching uranium for a long time. But, the already enriched uranium still poses a major threat and can be turned into an inefficient atomic bomb.

  8. Trump said the most outlandish statement that “Hamas actually behaved pretty well.” That is a very short sighted thing to say . It’s only in the last few months . it has “behaved” in non- death inflecting ways. It’s just waiting for the time it chooses to further engage in its murderous jihad, Thien it will again and again.

    As Hamas has declared about itself in its Charter that “the Koran is its constitution.” The Koran indeed , instructs for Muslims to engage in violence and killing for the cause of Islam, As found in for example , Suriah 2:19,4:89.. 9:5, 23 47:4. This Hamas did on October 7th 2023. Be sure it it can do it again it will.

    In article eight it further declares “the Koran is it constitution Jihad is the path and death for the sake of Allah it the loftiest of is wishes.”

    Therefore, Trump by what he said had revealed himself to be just as ignorant as Obama.

    No matter what a good fake Hamas put on , its still a malice filled jihad entity , ready to attack in murderous jihad violence occur again Just give it time.. It, the short book published be Hamas that is titled “Hamas General Principles and Policies ” That jihad terror /murder reveals it real intentions . For it declares “Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine ,from the river to the sea.”

    In other words , the Islamic goal of Hamas is twofold, which is total destruction of the State of Israel and to commit genocide of the entire Jewish race.

    Trump is in ignorance because of the disinformation that is fed to him.

Even if , and that is “if” Hamas continues to “behaved pretty well.” which it will not, Nevertheless, even if i would do so, that would never ,ever erase its long history through the years of its malicious murderous Muslim terrorist jihad attacks . Of which October 7th, 2023 was the most monstrous of it’s jihad affronts.

As for Israel Trump turns his back on Americas friend ,because he trust the lying words of America’s enemy, that still has as its theme “Death to the USA..” Trump’s likewise abandoned the Iranian people ,after encouraging the to revolt against that Islamic tyranny that they suffer under, Leaving them open the savagery cruel and severe repercussions of the IRGC.

  13. I support the MOU. The USA got what it wanted; it destroyed Iran’s nuclear supply. That is what the war was all about. Muslims are obligated by God to kill people. Iran is a country to Muslims. It is up to them to convert to something more decent. That is not a negotiable point. Even if the current regime was eliminated, then it would be, “Meet the new boss, just like the old boss.” Did I mention that they were Muslim?

    • Yeah, and you are at least 5 years outdated. There was a nationwide poll by an Iranian polling agency GAMAAN, which found out that only 40% of Iranians are muslims of any sect, and only 32-35% are Twelver shi’a. So unlike in the cases of Afghanistan or Iraq, their aspirations aren’t all that worth dismissing

    • The MOA’s terms for what Iran must do are fluid and impossible to nail down. It is not an agreement; rather it is an agreement to agree. It’s a win for the Mullahs and the IRGC because it allows them a reprieve from the war, gives them a cash stimulus to rebuild their war machine, and when they regain sufficient strength, the jihad will resume.

      Aside from accomplishing the no nuclear Iran goal, it leaves our other objectives unresolved. Iranian military actions, state-sponsored terrorism, and proxy networks have killed nearly 1,000 Americans over the last four decades. The death toll includes both U.S. service members deployed overseas and American civilians targeted in international terrorist attacks and regional conflicts. Remember the Marine Corps. barracks bombing in Lebanon carried out by Hizb’allah at the direction of Iran?

      And back when Reagan was president, Iran decided to mine the Strait of Hormuz, blowing out the keel of a US naval ship escorting tankers, This prompted the US to respond with Operation Praying Mantis. We then decimated Iran’s navy and exposed their possession of Chinese made missiles (that they previously promised they did not possess). Iran never learned its lesson and continued its state sponsored terrorism, killing Americans all over the globe.

      Now, right when we and Israel had Iran on the ropes, delivering blow after blow that was minimally answered, Trump decides to pull the plug on the war so the mullahs can survive and resume the jihad. If you were.taking an antibiotic for a serious infection, and after 4 days you felt better, would you discontinue the prescribed 10-day course? I’m sure that the answer would be “no.” Just as taking a partial course of antibiotics has a high probability of allowing the infection to come back in full fury, failure to militarily finish the war with Iran will guarantee that we will be plagued with Iranian sponsored jihad in the years to come, possibly starting sooner.

  14. I shudder at such mindless stupidity. I have been a Trump supporter for a long time. Not a perfect man, but much better than the B.O. administrations I, II and III (Biden). I never expected him to make a vastly worse deal even than B.O. did.

    Have people noticed his manner of speaking, facial affect and other things are very different from when he took office? I have felt for years that presidential candidates should have a thorough neurological and psychiatric examination. Maybe by a committee of three Drs., each candidate chooses one, then those two agree on a third. And a similar exam yearly while President.

  15. Great article, but you missed (unless I missed it) the one gem he recently said that is very close to the type of blasphemy God will not tolerate. In addition to all his public Israeli bashing and Qatari/Iran love group hug statements (sickening), he said “if it weren’t for me, Israel wouldn’t exist.” WTH?! Even Trump, with all his stupid, counter productive bs, most stay spoken at the absolute times, needs one of his minions to pull him aside and recant that statement. God alone determines Israel’s existence and I’m surprised Bibi has not responded as such. Trump is getting precariously close to donning the hitler facade the left is accusing him of wearing..he’s not burning Jews, yet , but he has apparently made it very clear he does not take any sort of criticism from those closest to him.
