Darializa Avila Chevalier, who calls herself an Afro-Latina Muslim, posted this on X, as part of an extensive barrage: “A world without borders—just like a world without prisons or police—is possible, necessary, and the only moral way forward.” And “Israel does not exist.” She also referenced “the US as a ‘f—ing disgrace’, gleefully talking about wiping her dirty hands on the American flag and describing interracial relationships involving white females as ‘fetishizing ugly colonizer women.’” Yet Mamdani had no problem supporting this anti-American, anti-Israel, racist and anarchist candidate.
In March, Avila Chevalier also attended Friday prayers at the Al-Khoei Islamic Center in Queens, New York, where she “addressed the congregants and said that her opponent, Adriano Espaillat is ‘bought by the Israeli lobby to stay silent.’ During the following prayer service, the imam prayed for the Mahdi to kill the infidels by His sword.”
CNN reports that Avila Chevalier deleted hundreds of posts. But according to Mezha Media, Avila Chevalier actually deleted THOUSANDS of “posts and reposts advocating for the abolition of police, prisons, and borders, as well as the confiscation of private property and the nationalization of key sectors of the economy and calls regarding Israel’s existence.”
Whether hundreds or thousands, Avila Chevalier’s posts were far beyond a handful of inexcusable emotional tirades. They were an indication of her deeply held values; Mamdani most certainly knows where she stands.

It actually started before Pres. Reagan. In 1963, JFK signed the Community Mental Health Act, which promoted replacing a large state hospitals with community mental health centers.
Jimmy Carter also supported community mental health initiatives in the late 1970s.
And yes, Pres. Reagan followed up by reducing federal support for mental health programs during the 1980s.
We see the results of this every day: the severely mentally ill are out in the community, oftentimes off their medications, receiving no treatment, and committing crime, after crime, after crime….
The less severe cases can be successfully treated as out-patients, but the severe cases need to be institutionalized in order to protect not only them – but the public at large.
