Israel’s Former UN Ambassador: Replace UN With a League of Democracies

The UN has endured a precipitous decline in legitimacy during the last two decades. It has been unwilling, or unable, to prevent or halt many of the world’s conflicts. It has done nothing to stop Russia’s aggression against Kiev. It hasn’t been able to halt China’s war against the Uighurs, nor its aggression in the South China Sea, where it has been intimidating ships from both Vietnam and the Philippines. The UN did nothing to stop North Korea from manufacturing nuclear weapons. It has done nothing to stop the jihadist terror group Boko Haram and other jihad groups from massacring tens of thousands of Christians in Nigeria, as well as smaller numbers of Christians in Cameroon and Niger. Jihadists have carried out attacks, kidnappings, and killings on Christian populations and villages in the Far North Region of Cameroon, the Lac Province of Chad, and the Diffa Region of Niger. There has not been a single UN Resolution passed against Muslim organizations or states until this year, when the Security Council passed Resolution 2817, which condemned Iran for its attacks on the Arab states of the Gulf and on Jordan. There will never be a UN resolution that will condemn a Muslim state or states for aggression against a non-Muslim state. There is no longer a Soviet bloc of states, nor a Western bloc of states, that could be counted on to vote in predictable ways; these blocs have gone the way of the Cold War. In truth, there is only one powerful bloc still subsisting at the UN, consisting of the 57 Muslim states, members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, who vote in lockstep, save during the rare occasions when the 56 Sunni Muslim states vote as one to condemn the single Shi’a state, Iran, for its aggression against its Sunni neighbors.

The most alarming development for the indigenous peoples of Europe is the invasion — that’s the mot juste — of their countries by tens of millions of Muslims, and in addressing that problem, the UN is of no help. These people now realize that they are in danger of having their own societies transformed as a result of demographic conquest, and have concluded that the UN can no longer help the West to survive. Instead, the UN, with its huge Muslim bloc, is now an obstacle to the West’s attempts to save itself.

Now Gilad Erdan, who as a former Israeli ambassador to the UN saw how nauseatingly anti-Israel that organization had become, and how protective of Islam, has proposed that a league of democracies replace the UN. No Russia, no China, no North Korea, and no Muslim states, either, for they would only be obstacles preventing the West from defending itself against a Muslim takeover.

Former Israeli ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan called for the United Nations to be defunded and dismantled, saying at The Jerusalem Post Conference in New York that the organization has become structurally hostile to Israel and incapable of reform.

“Defund the UN. Replace it with a real league of democracies,” Erdan said during a panel with political analyst Danielle Roth Avneri. “After 80 years, it is time to get rid of the UN.”

Erdan, who now serves as global president of Magen David Adom, said the UN’s problem was not limited to Secretary-General António Guterres, whom he sharply criticized, but was rooted in the organization’s political makeup.

“When you have more than 50% of member states that are non-democracies, and almost one-third of UN member states are Muslim countries that vote together against Israel, of course there is no way to fix it from within,” he said.

He pointed to Iran’s election to the Human Rights Council and Saudi Arabia’s role chairing the Commission on the Status of Women as examples of what he described as the UN’s moral collapse….

“Any deal with the ayatollahs’ Iranian regime that keeps them in place is a bad deal for the future of Israel,” Erdan said, adding that he believed an agreement between Washington and Tehran would ultimately be signed.

The minimum terms, he said, must include removing all enriched uranium from Iran and dismantling all of its nuclear facilities.

“Otherwise, I’m sorry to say, it will be the same kind of agreement as the one that was signed during President Obama’s term,” he said….

Erdan also confirmed that he is working to establish a new right-wing party in Israel, saying that many Israelis feel “politically homeless.”

He said the party would be clearly right-wing, but committed to the principle that “everyone in Israel, including Arabs and including haredim, should share the burden.”burden.”

So much for that idiotic charge of “apartheid” so often flung at Israel. Erdan is ready to welcome not just the haredim, but also Arabs, to join his new party, and also wants them to serve in the IDF, for he thinks it right and proper for all parts of Israeli society to share the burden of defending the country.

In 1946 the League of Nations, having failed so spectacularly to prevent the rise of Fascism and Nazism, was put out of its misery, closed down, and the United Nations replaced it. Now the United Nations has also failed so spectacularly, this time unable to prevent tens of millions of Muslims from moving into Western Europe. Their presence has led to hundreds of billions of dollars being spent annually on every sort of benefit the generous welfare states provide those economic migrants posing as asylum seekers, a rise in the crime rates wherever Muslims have settled in large numbers, and a breakdown in social cohesion. This is the great challenge to the wellbeing of the indigenous non-Muslims, and one which the UN, subservient to the huge Muslim bloc formed by 57 of its 193 members, cannot deal with. Hence the need for a new organization to take the place of the corrupt and corrupting UN. This would not be a military alliance but, rather, an alliance of democratic countries within an organization dedicated to upholding the political and social values of the West.

The people who understand and are alarmed by the increasing Islamization of their countries need to discuss Erdan’s proposal. Already, in every Western country, political leaders have now come to the fore who would be willing to consider such an organization. These leaders include Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen of the National Rally in France, Alice Weidel of the Alternative für Deutschland in Germany, Rupert Lowe of the Restore Britain Party, and Giorgia Meloni of the Fratelli d’Italia in Italy. A new union consisting of the democracies to replace the hideously antisemitic United Nations is as necessary now as the United Nations once was, after the League of Nations proved itself to be of little worth in constraining Nazis and Fascists.
