Under the deal, Iran will still be able to build more ballistic missiles, will still be able to support its proxies — Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Lebanon — and if the Americans have their way, Israel will have to stop its attacks against Hezbollah. Iranians who oppose the regime were “shocked” by the emerging details of an agreement between the US and Iran, an Iranian source told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.
The source, who is in touch with Iranians inside Iran and is knowledgeable about the situation on the ground in various parts of the country, discussed how the emerging agreement is being greeted in Iran.
Friends say “everything was going on organically to the advantage of the Iranian people and the world since the first war in June 2025 started against the Islamic Republic,” the source said, adding that the 12-day war, which began with Israeli strikes against Iran, was successful.
Nevertheless, dissidents in Iran have been surprised by the outcome of the Trump administration’s involvement, according to the source.
“He came to harvest what the Israelis had planted while the tree was still a sapling, and he ruined the seeding,” the source said….
There is a sense that the Iranian people deserved better than what has happened, the source added. They were massacred in protests in January, and then the war that began on February 28 did not bring the toppling of the regime. Instead, the regime might feel empowered, the source said.
The deal, as revealed so far, is a clear win for Iran, and Iranians — 85% of whom oppose the current regime — fear that the government will then believe it can be even more repressive, if such is possible, than before. After all, if foreign states again threaten it with sanctions for its mass incarceration, and killing, of dissidents, Tehran can begin again to threaten to block the Strait of Hormuz, the control of which is now Iran’s most potent weapon.
Some Iranian dissidents, still hoping for a change in regime, appear to believe that the deal can be undone before it is set in stone over the next 60 days if, that is, Iran’s “hardliners” can somehow, in a quasi-coup, gain temporary control of the government. These people are so fanatical that they don’t want any deal with the Americans, no matter how favorable to Iran; they want to keep on with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to devastate the economies of the rich, Infidel West, even if doing so harms Iran. That refusal by an Iranian government of hardliners to accept the deal would satisfy the fanatics, but in the end, because that refusal would keep Iran from receiving tens of billions of dollars in unfrozen assets, the Iranian economy would continue to crater, and that, in turn, would lead to still greater poverty — so these dissidents calculate — and lead to massive demonstrations that would finally be too large for the regime to suppress. That is the hope, born of the dissidents’ despair at the current deal that allows the regime to gloat that it has won. Because it has.

Someday we will give “credit” to Iran for speeding up the move toward nuclear power, the building of oil pipelines, and the build-out, along with AI, of power line infrastructure. It has been demonstrated, amply, that dependence on the Strait of Hormuz is a bad idea. We could see the day when Iran is begging Israel to buy its oil.
Looking at Iran, realistically, the droughts of the North may be permanent, requiring the abandonment of Tehran. It has mountainous regions where the Regime is weak. It has made enemies of Sunni nations. It can’t project its army farther that it can walk or ride on roads. Missiles and drones won’t win a war anywhere, as we have witnessed in Israel, Iran, and, Ukraine unless it carries nuclear weapons for only one side. Wars stop when there is too much pain and no money.
The “agreement” is not going to hold, the hardliners are threatening assassinations and will keep causing problems for oil shipping. In a sense the “agreement” is a weapon which will cause internal division and missteps.
Sometimes direct war is a bad approach yet yields opportunities. For example, Russia is building oil and gas pipelines to China to end reliance on European customers. The US and Europe should expand domestic oil and nuclear energy and get off ME oil addiction.

I’m a little disappointed in this agreement, but then again I don’t know the Presidents long term plan. Will Ilam hold to the agreement, I think NOT. Trump knows this also, and probably has a plan sitting on his desk for what happens next . I feel sad for the people of Iran who wanted a change in their government, but they need to be just a little patient.
