Polygamy is illegal in the United States, but Karim Abu Zaid can speak about his two wives openly, because he knows that American authorities, especially in far-left Colorado, will not risk charges of “Islamophobia” by prosecuting him. Also, he is likely only legally married to one of the women involved, at most, and so Colorado authorities would have to go to the effort of proving that he was, in fact, married to both of them in order even to begin contemplating a prosecution. He can be secure in the knowledge that they will not make the effort.
It is a shame, however, for if U.S. authorities actually enforced laws against polygamy, they would catch a lot of jihadis. Jihadis tend to be Sharia-adherent, and thus are often polygamous.

The new 2026 Colorado on bigamy allows a misdemeanor charge only when one party is under duress, deception, or fraud. Consential polygamy is allowed but only one marriage has the state’s legal blessing and protections. The other is more or less a private contract.
Thus Karim Abu Zaid cannot be prosecuted under Colorado law unless he tries to register both women as wives or applies for spousal or tax benefits based on both. You can almost hear the competition, “I’m the legal wife!”

If muslims can be allowed to get away w/ this, why not apologize to the LDS people & let them also get a carveout on the issue of having multiple wives? And even allow it for the general population: as it is, people nowadays seem to love sleeping around instead of getting married to just one person. Or even if they do, they have “open marriages”. So just legalize polyamory, and be done w/ it

The tax structure and society as a whole cannot support men having more then one wife with large number of children all over the place. It is not a good environment for the children ,it is not fair to the women ,letting cults change norms and standards that have advance western societies with stability for centuries is not a good idea .
