In 2015, then-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel swung open wide the doors to her country for migrants, proclaiming that “Wir schaffen das!” — “We can do this!” — by which she meant that “we Germans can indeed let in large numbers of these economic migrants, overwhelmingly Muslim, and successfully integrate them into our societies.” That year, almost a million migrants entered Germany, and in the years since, more millions have arrived to take advantage of every benefit that the generous welfare state of Germany provides, including free or heavily subsidized housing, free medical care, free education including vocational training, family allowances, unemployment benefits, and more. These immigrants, in no hurry to be gainfully employed, pocketed the benefits that the state provided. Some of them also found other ways to supplement their welfare benefits, through crime — street robberies, home burglaries, drug trafficking. And Muslim males, needing release of another kind, have turned to sexual assault and rape. Muslims now make up 7% of the population in Germany, but 30% of the prison population. And in youth detention facilities in Germany, Muslims make up 50% of the inmates.
So no, Chancellor Merkel was wrong. Neither her country, nor any other country in Europe, has been able to “do this” — that is, to successfully integrate the Muslim migrants flooding into their countries. And her enthusiastic embrace of (mostly Muslim) migrants has been terrible both for Germany, and for other European countries that have chosen to follow her lead.
But the political and media elites in Europe still refuse to recognize the terrible consequences of Merkel’s misplaced enthusiasm for immigrants. Instead, the European Parliament has inducted Merkel into the newly-created European Order of Merit. On May 19, 2026, the European Parliament inducted Angela Merkel into the inaugural European Order of Merit as a “Distinguished Member.” In this capacity, she holds a status comparable to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former Polish President Lech Wałęsa. The award purportedly recognizes contributions to European integration and the defense of shared values. In a ceremony marked by protests from the Patriots for Europe alliance, who decried the event as an exercise in elite self-congratulation (complete with hired spectators to fill empty seats), Merkel was feted for a legacy that many Europeans now experience as a slow-motion catastrophe.
The honor bestowed on Merkel is politically tone-deaf, reflecting an equally arrogant and grotesque inversion of reality. Her signature policy—the 2015 decision to suspend the Dublin Regulation and declare “Wir schaffen das” (“We can do this”)—unleashed a civilian invasion by military-age males from Muslim-majority countries with cultural, religious, and civilizational frameworks profoundly at odds with the Judeo-Christian and humanist foundations of Europe.
Far from an act of enlightened humanism, Merkel’s policy represented a catastrophic failure of prudence, foresight, and loyalty to the European peoples whose future she abruptly decided to wreck. A decade later, the consequences—social fragmentation, security crises, cultural erosion, and demographic displacement—stand as monuments of shame to a leader who prioritized narcissistic global acclaim over the intergenerational continuity of her own civilization.
The portents were immediate and visceral. On New Year’s Eve 2015 in Cologne, four months after Merkel’s “open invitation,” over 1,200 criminal complaints were filed, including hundreds of sexual assaults perpetrated by group predators from North Africa and the Middle East. Police reports and subsequent investigations documented coordinated mob attacks: women surrounded, groped, robbed, and violated in a manner alien to European public spaces.
Two-thirds of identified suspects in Cologne were from Morocco or Algeria, with a significant portion being asylum-seekers or illegal entrants. Similar incidents occurred in Hamburg, Stuttgart, and elsewhere. Merkel’s government initially downplayed the events in collusion with news media and authorities who hesitated to report the ethnic dimension. Rather than a mysterious breakdown of public order, the mass attacks epitomized the entirely predictable clash of incompatible norms: tribal sexual aggression—a single aspect of general dominance behavior—meeting a feminized, guilt-ridden European public sphere unprepared for mass importation of unassimilable populations….
There are now more than 40 million Muslims in Europe. Everywhere it is the same story: these Muslims, most of them welfare recipients, are an enormous drain on national treasuries; they are responsible for a steep rise in crime; thanks to their much higher rate of fertility than that of the indigenous non-Muslims, as well as continued immigration, they are an ever greater proportion of the population. They have no desire to integrate into societies that enshrine the values of non-Muslims, whom the Muslims know are “the most vile of created beings,” while they are the “best of peoples.”
Angela Merkel is not just undeserving of this European Order of Merit; she is the least deserving recipient of this award. She opened her country to an invasion by people who do not share European values, and would, if they could, impose their own. The Muslims do believe that, as Muhammad said, “Islam is to dominate and not to be dominated.” No leader has done as much damage to the wellbeing of Europeans in the postwar period as Angela Merkel.

Even w/ all that, the EU might have worked had they remained a strictly European club, and not invited the rest of the world in. By doing that, they just ruined things for everyone. It would be ironic if in EU-wide elections, parties like AfD, National Rally, Restore Britain, PVV, et al all won and got a majority in “Brussels”, and then started enacting laws that more tightly defined European citizenship and forcing all muslims and other non-European migrants out, and enforcing that on their members. I can bet you that Labour and Social Democrat parties across Europe would be screaming foul, and for national sovereignty – something that they don’t believe in when they are in power
As for Frau Merkel, she should be tossed in a jail w/ a whole bunch of rapefugees, so that she can personally experience what she unleashed both on her country as well as the rest of her continent

One has to be willfully blind not to read the Quran and understand what it says. Just for first hand understanding of what Islam is. There are enough legitimate sources readily available that after a few hours of investigation one can be informed enough to come to basic understandings. Islam is simply not compatible with western democratic systems. Especially so as relates to the US Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Being that this is clearly true I don’t know how a practicing Muslim is allowed entrance into a democratic country and I don’t know how they can be accepted as citizens. Sharia Law is the opposite and in opposition to the founding principles of the US Constitutional Republic.
