The US and Iran have agreed in principle to a deal that will reopen the Strait of Hormuz and see Tehran surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, a US official has said.
It is hoped that the agreement will end the US and Iranian blockades of the vital waterway, restoring stability to the Middle East and ending the global energy crisis triggered by the war.
A US official stressed that, while the broad framework had been decided, final sign-off was still needed from Donald Trump and Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader – which could take days.
Iran said there were still details to be worked out, and that the deal could be cancelled at any time. Mr Trump said: “It isn’t even fully negotiated yet.”
The agreement is expected to come in the form of a memorandum of understanding that gives both sides another 60 days to sign a final deal and negotiate an end to Iran’s nuclear programme. It does not address Tehran’s missiles.
However, Iran will have to commit to never pursuing nuclear weapons. It will also have enter negotiations to suspend its uranium enrichment programme entirely.
Tehran will surrender its stockpile of near weapons-grade uranium, although the method and timeline remain unclear.
Nuclear talks in the coming weeks or months will focus on how to dispose of the stockpile and address Iran’s enrichment programme, with the US pushing for a 20-year moratorium. Iran has proposed a much shorter pause.
The two main sticking points appear to be over the timing of the release of Iran’s frozen assets and the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
Iran also wants its $25bn (£18.6bn) in frozen assets to be released before an agreement is reached on its nuclear programme….

Also, at this point I do not see how this regime can be removed without lots of “boots on the ground” from outside Iran. I do not see how those Iranians in Iran who oppose the regime can be adequately armed to defeat the regime by themselves, even with outside air support.

As it is, the current negotiations seem to show Trump as a chump, not just negotiating w/ a party where we don’t know who’s calling the shots, but also having as intermediaries our enemies Fuckistan, which sheltered Osama and every major al-Qaeda leader
If the GOP wants to win, its Congressional delegation needs to put pressure on Trump to either join the Israelis in completely toppling this regime and bringing Reza Pahlavi to power, or just packing up & withdrawing. Although I dare say the latter won’t do a thing for traffic in the Strait of Hormuz

Trump is looking for a respectable path out, to a lost war. We want to preserve what we had, and rebuild our bases. The cost will be unfreezing assets, no sanctions, and a toll on the Hormuz for Iran. Iran will not drop its nuclear ambitions. They will rebuild it no matter what’s agreed to. And they will also keep their proxies as well.
That’s the reality. Our back will be broken in three months, if we attack again. There’s nothing we can attack but their infrastructure. They can keep launching for years on end.

But I heard they will still be a year away if they chose. They have a bunch of other facilities under ground.
Although unconfirmed, I also heard they weren’t stupid enough to leave all their uranium in one spot, but instead spread them out all across the country barrel by barrel. But it benefits not Trump or Iran to tell the public.
These bums are not to be trusted. Also, nobody knows for certain what happened at those bombed sites underground. It could be dug out, it is likely the barrels survived but the cannot get to them right now.

F@#k no they won’t. But what can we do? We should make the deal now, and rearm for another round of war in five years and keep a close eye on on them.
There’s only a dozen top notch big bunker busters left. We need 1,000 to be safe from these maniacs. We need cheap interceptors. And we need to whip out so called gulf allies so they let us use their bases in war. It really choked our military logistically that they betrayed us, all while Iran attacked these fools anyway.
