A hadith depicts Muhammad specifying the punishment for homosexual activity: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Loot, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.’” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4462)
And so if these men aren’t executed, they will have gotten off lightly. Malaysia, after all, does have a reputation for being “moderate.”
There are many Christians and others in the West who disapprove of homosexual activity and regard it as immoral. They do not, however, generally call for imprisonment or execution of the offenders. Those punishments are part of Sharia’s reign of terror: virtue is brought about by making everyone too frightened not to be virtuous.

Malaysian authorities detained 51 men in a series of raids on Sunday in connection with what police described as a drug-fueled “gay party” held at a Kuala Lumpur hotel.
Homosexuality is criminalized in Muslim-majority Malaysia, which operates a dual-track legal system with Islamic laws for Muslims running alongside civil laws. Sodomy is a crime, while sharia laws are also in place that ban same-sex acts and cross-dressing.
Police arrested the men – aged between 21 and 52, and including 28 foreigners – in four separate raids, narcotics investigations department director Hussein Omar Khan said in a statement late Monday.
Authorities also seized about 103,070 ringgit ($26,021) worth of illicit drugs, including MDMA, ecstasy pills and powder, and ketamine, he said.
“This group was found to be using rooms in upscale hotels for entertainment, drug abuse, and is believed to be involved in immoral activities,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act….

Malaysia is not a moderate country, it dscriminates its people by race and religion, even the indegenous people in Borneo island are facing discrimination. Luckily, the proprotion of the Malay people (the dominant in Malacca peninsula) and the Chinese/Indian is about 65:35 (I don’t count the indigenous in Borneo, it is from the 1990s data) so the discrimination practice is not much publicized. But it is in the law.
Compared to Indonesia, Indonesia in most case does not have discriminatory laws although some laws are still used targetting certain ethnics or religions. The authority closes its eyes on the muslims who break the law, but doesn’t do the same to the Christians

In the 1980s, people used to rant about Apartheid in South Africa (although today, the situation there is not merely flipped, but ugly for Boers). But what Malaysia has – the “bhumiputra” – is far worse. The indigenous Dayaks and the Orang Aslis would be the real bhumiputras (sons of the soil), but aren’t covered by this. Otoh, this law does cover Hui Chinese, who are not native to Malaya or Borneo, but who are muslims like the Malays are
You are right – Malaysia is an ally of countries like Turkey & Pakistan, and nothing like Indonesia or Emirates if one has something called a jihad spectrum

Men having sex with each other is certainly illegal in Malaysia however women having sex with each other is not illegal.
I lived there years ago and became friends with a small Chinese guy that was very Queer, friend of a friend and he was a great Cook, anyways he once told me that all the muslim men, local, Bangladeshi and Pakistani workers, come to him before they get married to the person chosen for them by their Parents and many come back to him even after they marry.
