In just the first four months of his mayoralty, Zohran Mamdani has displayed his anti-Israel animus on every conceivable occasion. He has refused to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism; in fact, he refuses to accept any definition of antisemitism. After all, this is someone who finds nothing wrong with the hair-raising chant to “globalize the Intifada,” which, properly understood, is a call for killing Jews everywhere.
He also wants to have the city sell all of its Israeli bonds, despite the fact that Israel has never missed a payment, but has always paid promptly the interest the city is owed on the bonds, an investment that has provided an impressive average annual return of 5%. Fortunately, the New York City comptroller, Mark Levine, is determined to keep the city’s investment in Israeli bonds; there is nothing the mayor can do about this. New York City’s top financial official defended the city’s ongoing investment in Israel bonds as the administration of Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced growing criticism over its refusal to adopt a formal definition of antisemitism and continued hostile posture toward the Jewish state, paving the way for a showdown over how New York should address hate crimes and foreign investment policy.
Comptroller Mark Levine said on Wednesday that bonds issued by the Israeli government remained a safe, long-standing investment for city pension funds, insisting that financial decisions must be separated from political pressure. Levine pointed to the bonds’ decades-long record of repayment and argued his office’s responsibility was to maximize returns for retirees, not respond to shifting political campaigns.
“This is not political. It shouldn’t be political,” said Levine, a Democrat. “Israel bonds have never missed a payment in 70 years, ever, not once.”
The comptroller noted that the city has investments in other foreign countries but only faces protests for its association with Israel.
“And by the way, we’ve had no protesting about our investments in Saudi Arabia, our investments in Pakistan or China — only this one little, tiny sliver,” Levine said.
His comments came as the Mamdani administration faced continued scrutiny over its approach to Israel and antisemitism policy. Mamdani, a far-left democratic socialist who has made anti-Israel activism a cornerstone of his political career, has urged Levine to end city investments in Israel bonds….
Mamdani has long been an outspoken supporter of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel on the international stage as the first step toward its elimination. Leaders of the movement have repeatedly stated their goal is to destroy the world’s only Jewish state. As an undergraduate at Bowdoin, Mamdani created the first BDS movement on that campus.
If New York City were to divest itself of Israeli bonds, how many of those nearly 30,000 jobs in the city that Israel-founded companies created would be lost, as some of those companies might, in response, move their North American businesses elsewhere — say, to Cambridge, Massachusetts or other east coast hubs of high tech — which is what many of those New York City-based Israeli companies are already doing?
As soon as Mamdani took office, the number of antisemitic incidents in New York City rose precipitously. The NYPD reported an 182% increase in January 2026 from the number recorded in January 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, antisemitic incidents rose 18% over the same period in 2025. The atmospherics in the city have changed dramatically for Jews now that Mamdani is mayor. Jews feel more anxious, knowing that their mayor accuses the Jewish state of “genocide,” refuses to condemn the phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” which is a call for killing Jews everywhere, and will no longer rely on the IHRA definition of antisemitism. Mamdani will do what he can to sever the city’s ties with Israel. But as long as Mark Levine is comptroller, the Muslim mayor from Uganda will be unable to force New York City to sell its Israeli bonds. How that must madden him.

The NYC Comptroller is spot on. His job is to ensure NYC pension money is invested in safe investments that will meet the actuarial calculations for pension payouts.
With respect to high tech companies moving out of NYC, their destination seems to be Research Triangle Park in North Carolina and not Cambridge Taxacbusetts, save for a few industries such as specialized pharmaceuticals.
About 15 years ago, Cornell University, jointly with Israel’s Technion Institute (The MIT of Israel), entered into a joint partnership to found and run the Roosevelt Island Technology oncubator. But, when Mamdani won the election, Technion’s name seems to have quietly been dropped from this endeavor, although their status is still the same. Since it’s inception, about 120 thriving high tech companies have been created there, but most don’t make tangible product. Software is the most common type of company, and they can easily pick up and leave NYC once their contract to stay ends.

Non-Muslims DO NOT HAVE equal rights under the law, Islamic Law(Sharia), in ANY Muslim country. Yet, in the West, Muslims HAVE equal rights under the law. As a result, Muslims will always brag, boast, and proclaim anything with supreme confidence. Therefore, in the West, we do not need to ban Islam, but we need to establish a Legal Threshold to qualify for or to gain Rights, Protections, and Privileges under the Law where the Applicant Entity must adhere to the USA Constitution. Hence, no government funding would be available to the Entity for its failure.
The purpose is not to ban any Applicant Entity but to establish a Legal Threshold for qualification. As a result, Islam and its Muslim Organizations would fail to qualify due to their discrimination, segregation, violence, and terrorism against Non-Muslims as taught in Islamic Law, aka Islam. Freedom does not exist in Islamic Law or in Islam’s Qur’an.
