Israel Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander

In Israel’s other war, the one it is fighting in Lebanon against the terror group Hezbollah, the IDF has just managed to kill one of its most senior commanders. Israel’s military on Wednesday said it killed senior Hezbollah commander Haj Youssef Ismail Hashem in the biggest blow to the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group since a fresh bout of fighting with Israel erupted early last month.

Israel’s navy killed Hashem, the commander of Hezbollah‘s southern front, the country’s military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on X. Hezbollah later confirmed his death in a statement Wednesday, calling him a “beacon of the Islamic Resistance.”…

The Israelis keep assassinating those commanders. This decapitation campaign started with the killing of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who spent most of his time in a bunker deep underground, but Israeli bombs collapsed an apartment building on top of him and his bunker. A steady stream of senior commanders in Hezbollah have been killed ever since, one after another, in almost comical fashion.

“He is a tier-one commander and this is the harshest blow we have been subject to since the assassination of Tabtabai,” a senior Hezbollah official told Reuters.

Haytham Ali Tabtabai was appointed as chief of staff following the group‘s 2024 war with Israel. He was killed on the outskirts of the capital Beirut in an operation that had targeted the group after it struck a ceasefire deal with Israel that brought an end to the fighting….

Hashem was meeting with senior commanders when he was killed, the official said. “A team was monitoring the sky for drones or war [planes] and the strike came from warships, and that had not been accounted for,” the source added. “A group of second-tier and third-tier commanders and some escorts were killed alongside him.”

Hezbollah security forces assigned to protect the senior commanders at their meeting were scanning the sky for drones and warplanes, but while they were looking at the sky, an Israeli boat just offshore fired at the building where the meeting of senior commanders was being held, crumbling it into dust, and killing the people inside. How did the Israelis know when and where that meeting would be held? Beirut has a great many people working for Mossad, including Lebanese natives, that’s how.

Talal Atrissi, a sociology professor at the Lebanese University and an analyst who is close to Hezbollah, said Hashem’s killing is unlikely to affect the group‘s conduct on the battlefield.

“It is of course a loss for Hezbollah and the resistance, but of course as we have seen, they have a number two and a number three that they can replace him with,” he said.

What else could Talal Atrissi say? As a loyal supporter of Hezbollah, he has to make light of the loss. No defeatism allowed.

But in the Kirya, the IDF’s military headquarters in Tel Aviv, they know better. Haj Yousef Ismail Hashem is the most important commander to be assassinated since Haytham Ali Tabatabai, Hezbollah’s chief of staff, who was assassinated on November 23, 2025.

Keep it up, IDF. Make the mad dogs of Hezbollah run scared, scanning the sky and the sea but never sure where the fatal bullet or bomb will come from.
