Iran Nominated to Head UN Terrorism Prevention Group

The United Nations is the single worst enabler of human rights abuses in the world even as it claims to protect human rights.

As UN Watch reports, the United Nations continues elevating Iran, China and other human rights abusers to leading positions in shaping and determining human rights findings and enforcement.

And Iran, the world’s greatest state sponsor of terrorism, in particular will be in a position to shape policy terrorism prevention.

On Wednesday, the UN’s 54-nation Economic and Social Council nominated the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN’s Committee for Program and Coordination, which meets next month to shape policy on women’s rights, human rights, disarmament, and terrorism prevention. ECOSOC’s nomination is effectively decisive, as the UN General Assembly customarily rubber-stamps such nominations without a vote.

In addition, ECOSOC by acclamation elected China, Cuba, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan to the influential Committee on NGOs, which oversees the work, accreditation and UN access of thousands of human rights and civil society groups that enjoy consulative status at the world body.

The United States was the only ECOSOC member to object, saying that Iran, Cuba and Nicaragua were “unfit.”

Henhouse meet fox. The UN can’t counter terrorism becomes the terrorism is coming from inside the house. The UN is the problem. And the sooner we get rid of it, the better.

  2. What a joke from the biggest sponsor of terrorism. US needs to not give one cent to the UN, but not withdraw so a dissenting, rational voice is heard.

    The un has no problem with choosing the evil to pretend to seek peace and security for the innocent.

  4. As Winston Churchill noted by no later than 1958, the UN had become as feckless as the League of Nations.

    And since then even worse. Far worse.

    Time way overdue for America to pull out of the UN. First and foremost it’s the right thing to do, but as a “bonus” it will put liberals into hysterics once again and viewing liberals in hysterics is a pure spectator sport. Personally, I enjoy such “theatrics” immensely.

  10. Before decorously declaring Iran “unfit”, please tell me the U.S. delegate was pointing and laughing at the Iranian delegate, while saying:

    “You got to be kidding! Right? You know, Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis? Those guys!, Right?
    I mean, why maintain decorum in the face of such absurd Pythonesque silliness?

    Trump, rightly, thinks the U.S. should pull out of NATO, since NATO European nations have shown they’ve left NATO. They refused to consistently grant the U.S. air space flyover ability, refueling ability and landing at military bases etc. Throw Erdogan’s Turkey into the mix and what is the point exactly?

    After acknowledging that NATO has left the U.S. the U.S. should make it formal and leave NATO.

    Leaving the U.N. should be next. Aside from the U.S. not wanting to help terrorist kill more Americans – that prime real estate does not need to continue contributing to Mamdani’s NY City tax base and economy.

    And as Wellington said, such Schadenfreude watching the deranged melt down

  15. The USA should withdraw from the UN, then close all the meeting places that they congregate at and kick all of them out of the country.

  17. Well after all, members of their Palestinian relief organization were among those on October 7. Let’s please never forget this, because as far as I’m aware the only thing that happened to these people is that they were fired from their jobs.

    I don’t think it’s a mistake to see the UN as the “greatest sponsor of global terrorism.”
