Houthis launch ‘barrage of cruise missiles and drones’ at Israel in ‘joint op’ with Iran and Hizballah

The war with the Islamic Republic of Iran (as expected) will increasingly draw out the regime’s proxies everywhere to join the battle, and this highlights the threat of the regime to all free societies. “Houthis claim drone fire at Eilat area in ‘joint op’ with Iran, Hezbollah,” by Emmanuel Fabian, Times of Israel, April 6, 2026:

The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen take responsibility for launching drones at southern Israel this afternoon.

In a statement, the Houthis say they launched a “barrage of cruise missiles and drones targeting several vital and military sites belonging to the Israeli enemy” in Eilat.

According to the IDF, several drones launched at the Eilat area were intercepted. The military said it lost contact with others, indicating they crashed somewhere.

The terror group also claims that the attack was a “joint operation” with Iran and Hezbollah.

At the same time, an Iranian ballistic missile salvo targeted central Israel….

Some background: the Houthis have posed a significant threat to American interests and Israel for years. The group is an Iranian proxy; its official slogan is “Allah is great, death to the U.S., death to Israel, curse the Jews, and victory for Islam.”

Some examples of the Houthis targeting American assets:

• They attacked American warships in early 2024.
• Their attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea in 2023-2024 caused shipping traffic to be rerouted around Africa, drastically lengthening the time of trips, which impacted global trade and the American economy.
• In June 2024, Houthis launched a barrage of attacks against the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier, which was leading the response against Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It had operated in the Red Sea for seven months, and was relieved by the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.
• According to the Pentagon, between 2023-2024, the Houthis attacked U.S. Navy and commercial vessels over 190 times.

In 2016, U.S. State Department Legal Adviser Brian Egan addressed the American Society of International Law. He stated this in reference to the Houthi threat:

Once a State has lawfully resorted to force in self-defense against a particular armed group following an actual or imminent armed attack by that group, it is not necessary as a matter of international law to reassess whether an armed attack is imminent prior to every subsequent action taken against that group, provided that hostilities have not ended.

In other words, the U.S. was perfectly justified in taking action against the Iranian proxy that had declared war on the U.S., Israel and other Western allies. According to Lawfare Media, the Houthis have been “paralyzing shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden” for years, and the threat from the group rapidly escalated.

In February 2024, the Yemen government warned of the Houthi threat to the “world’s digital infrastructure.” If Houthis are not controlled, they threaten full-scale war on behalf of Iran. Imagine the possibility of “a fifth” of the world’s internet going down. The world economy could collapse.

Houthi jihad warriors who have been humbly living in the mountains of Yemen do not have much to lose, but they believe that they have a great deal to gain in the name of Islam, as do the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The current news cycle and YouTubers cannot define the global jihad. It has been raging for 1400 years. When Trump decided to take on the head of the snake, Iran, it should have been kept in mind that the longer an enemy such as Iran has the ability to act at will, the more powerful it grows, as do its proxies. The questions circulating about the timing of this war are part of what free societies encourage and allow, unlike regimes such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, which murders those who question and challenge it.

The greatest question now should be: how long should the Iran threat have been allowed to fester, given its power, its proxies and its imminent threat to the West?
