Union Theological Seminary cancels Liberated Palestine and Queer Muslims event that called for violent jihad

If there ever was a time to set a precedent and lay charges, it’s now. Not only is there a documented open call for death and jihad, but so is the praise of Elias Rodriguez for the “assassination of two Zionists.”

No consequences translates to permission for jihadists everywhere to kill Americans and perpetuate violence against Zionists.

UPDATED: Spokesperson says seminary withdrew support after learning ‘violent nature of event’

An Islamic studies scholar told students to “be a threat” and praised the assassination of two “Zionists” during an online event Wednesday hosted by a student group at Union Theological Seminary, according to video clips of the talk.

Professor Muhammad Abdou spoke at the event “Death to the Akademy: How to be a thorn in their throat amidst snakes in the grass” co-hosted by the seminary chapter of Students for a Liberated Palestine and the group Queer Muslims of New York City, the Washington Free Beacon reports.

Abdou taught at Columbia University until recently when the institution banned him for “his public support for Hamas and Hezbollah,” according to the report.

In a video on X, Manhattan Institute investigative analyst Stu Smith shared clips of Abdou’s talk from the event Wednesday.

“Let us engage in jihad, and there are rules for jihad, and Muslims know that Allah has commanded rules. We don’t engage in wanton violence, but we don’t accept the negative peace either,” Abdou said.

The Muslim scholar also praised Elias Rodriguez for the “assassination of two Zionists,” according to Smith’s video.

“God bless him. He took action. … Take action. Not only that kind of action, just to be very clear, because there’s also building. We need to destroy. We need to create alternatives,” Abdou said.

Rodriguez is facing numerous charges after he allegedly killed two Israeli Embassy employees in 2025 in Washington, D.C. Authorities allege his motivation was antisemitic, The Hill reports.

Regarding higher education, Abdou told students to “be a threat.”

“If you throw a wrench into that system, you’ll discombobulate. So be a threat, fulfill it,” he said, according to the video.

A spokesperson for the seminary condemned the remarks in a statement emailed to The Fix late Thursday, saying administrators were “not aware of the violent nature of the event” when they authorized it.

  3. What a great place for a muzzie terrorist to give a speech! At a college where the young adults (supposedly adults) are trained to give spiritual advice to others. How wonderful the fact that he was being given his opportunity.

  5. I thought the Disney film, “Alladin” was a myth set to animation. Then I watched this guy, Professor Muhammad Abdou, and realized evil Jafar lives!

    As he turns his head back and forth on angles, half-smiling, gazed fixed at a point, it was like a snake preparing to strike. It makes one wonder what earns an “A” in his course. Shivers.

  6. This is what is going on across the country on our higher education. Thanks to these schools accepting billions of dollars from Islam.
