UK: Labour council promotes exhibition portraying Jewish people as ‘blood-soaked, baby-eating demons’

“Labour council promotes exhibition showing ‘Jews’ eating babies,” by Albert Tait, Telegraph, March 22, 2026:

An “anti-Semitic” art exhibition with drawings allegedly showing Jewish people eating babies was seemingly promoted by a Labour council.

The Drawings Against Genocide exhibition at an independent gallery in Margate, Kent, features hundreds of crudely-drawn pictures that critics claim contain anti-Semitic tropes.

It is the work of Matthew Collings, 70, formerly one of the country’s leading art critics, who said the art was “about raising consciousness about hell” and that “Israel is the pure encapsulation of it” through its actions in Gaza.

Jewish campaign groups and politicians said the drawings were “grotesque” and “not just sickening but dangerous”.

Kent Police said it was making inquiries into the exhibition.

Labour-led Thanet district council has been criticised for supporting the “openly anti-Semitic exhibition” after its tourism website, Visit Thanet, appeared to previously promote it, providing information on dates and venue on a since-deleted web page.

Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said: “This extremist Labour council is supporting an openly anti-Semitic exhibition. These pictures are dripping with sickening anti-Semitic tropes, and all those involved in this should hang their heads in shame.”

One of the drawings on display at the Joseph Wales Studios depicts two auctioneers at Sotheby’s – which is owned by Patrick Drahi, a French-Israeli businessman – eating babies, with blood dripping from their sharpened teeth.

Alex Hearn, from Labour Against Antisemitism, who posted the drawing on his X account, said the exhibition portrayed Jewish people “as blood-soaked, baby-eating demons”.

Mr Collings denied that it showed Jewish people, saying “nothing in the drawing says ‘Jews’ or claims Jews eat babies”. He said it “makes a comment that the owner of Sotheby’s is a Zionist” and “the message is that Zionism is a brutal ideology”.

Other artwork depicts a smiling Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier standing over a pool of blood and a human skull, and a figure holding a Star of David flag dripping with blood.

Another showed Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, alongside bank notes and an Israeli flag, with speech bubbles coming out of her mouth saying “I am a Zionist” and “I am paid by Israel”….

    The glimpses (thankfully only glimpses) shown of the supposed art shows all the talent and ability of a 2nd grade kid playing with crayons.

    • Children with no artistic talent, maybe. Or not trying to do well.
      My young granddaughters do so much better.
