The idea that these breeds must be banned because they are unhealthy is ridiculous on its face. Beagles and dachshunds and Scottish terriers and great danes and so many other breeds that have been known and loved in Britain and the U.S. from time immemorial are suddenly unhealthy and have to be banned? It is much more likely that shattered, staggering, dhimmi Britain’s far-left government is once again engaging in Islamopandering on a massive scale.

Sixty-seven dog breeds could be banned in Britain if new breeding guidelines set by parliament become mandatory, campaigners have warned.
The all-party parliamentary group (APPG) for animal welfare has launched a new tool to determine if a dog is healthy.
The cross-party committee has developed a 10-point checklist of extreme physical characteristics which can make for a poorly pooch.
They include mottled colouration, excessive skin folds, bulging outward-turning eyes, drooping eyelids, under or overbite and a muzzle that interrupts breathing.
The assessment – which is currently voluntary but expected to become law within five years – aims to drive out breeds with these sorts of exaggerated attributes.
It comes after studies have shown animals of these varieties can sometimes suffer pain, discomfort and frustration from birth.
But critics have cautioned the new criteria will see some 67 of the most popular types of dog in the UK automatically dubbed unhealthy, according to The Times.
This includes widely adored breeds like dachshunds, shih tzus and Scottish terriers – and even the late Queen’s beloved Welsh corgis….

Nice comment Steven. Our dog breeders know better than to have puppies impregnate littermates, or sires impregnate their puppies or vice-versa. Yet in some Muslim countries, like Kuwait, we have 50% consanguineous marriages. It’s largely to keep money in the family. Britain makes Pakistanis have genetic tests before marriage licenses to stop all the deformed babies left at hospitals or on door stoops.
This dog-killing decree should spawn a revolution. Let’s hope Europeans toss the Muslims out. We should have never let them in, like Teddy and Woodrow enacted.

If a dog suffers pain and discomfort from birth then I agree it’s a good thing to stop breeding them. But one dog on that list in particular caught my eye, and that is the border collie. Border collie’s (sheep dogs) are renowned for their intelligence, their energy, and suffer no such defects, so why on earth should they be on this list.

The proper approach would be for a team of informed veterinarians and geneticists to work with breeders and pet owners to breed OUT the defects, over time. Not ban the breeds outright but *help* them return to a healthy version.
We have quite good historic records of what some of the worst-affected breeds – such as pugs and bulldogs, which have huge issues with breathing and are prone to respiratory infections, etc, because of their squashed-in faces – used to look like, say, 100 years ago, or even 200 years ago (plenty of old photos and earlier than that, paintings showing people holding their pet) versus what they look like now. They were recognisably a given breed, but much closer to ‘basic dog normal’.
Set new ‘healthy type’ standards for the worst-affected breeds, with the aim that the animals should be able to mate and give birth normally with minimal human assistance (at present, there are breeds that mostly can only give birth by C-section!), and be able to breathe and move normally, etc. Make sure they can enjoy their doggie lives without having to have multiple (and hideously expensive!) visits to the vet.
And in the meantime, the animals cursed with the current less healthy ‘extreme’ forms should be cared for, lovingly, by suitably informed pet owners; the poor creatures didn’t ask to be bred into that bizarre shape!
And nota bene: what applies to dogs, applies to many many other domestic animals.. cats (notably Persian cats, with their ‘flat’ faces that lead to breathing issues similar to those of pugs), chickens, some breeds of horse and pony, and even some breeds of cattle… All of them need a ‘re-set’ away from seriously unhealthy ‘breed ideals’.

Spot on, DDA. I do pet and feral rescue, and that is *exaclty* the way to handle this.
But given that border collies are on this list and have no regular defects, this excuse for banning dogs is obviously false.

The article contains an error, and seems to confuse, or conflate, two separate issues: The various dog breeds we have today do not go back to “time immemorial”, they date back to the 1800’s. Prior to that, some dogs where better for hunting, some better for herding, etc.. but they had not yet been bred to the point where the features of various breeds were SO different from each other, so extreme, and sometimes maladaptive, and unhealthy. (Unhealthy for the individual, overbred dog, not unhealthy for people.) Unhealthy-for-the-dog, in this case, seems to conveniently overlap with the “unclean” sentiment of Muslims, implying “unhealthy for people”, which reflects the hate Mohammed had for dogs. Spineless people in government may claim their rule-making is do-gooding “for the protection of dogs”, but seems it actually goes part way to satisfy Muslim blood lust to kill all dogs. Convenient for the politicians, they get to claim virtue, while placating Muslim blood lust.

My family’s dog breed, Border Collie, made the list. They are called Border Collies because they were first bred along the border of northern England and Scotland. Not only are they beautiful, but they were also designated the smartest of all dog breeds. Nearly every dog seen in a TV commercial is a Border Collie because they are so attractive, very trainable, and great actors. If the Brits can’t get their act together to object to their immigration problems. One hopes this will get them mad enough to make some changes in their government.

There *are* a few dog breeds which are prone to health problems like back problems and displaced hips–and this is a real issue.
Do I believe that this ban–of *67 breeds*!–has anything to do with the health of dogs? I do not. In this case the ban might be on *breeding* these dogs, or breeding them in a certain manner–not banning the dogs themselves.
