Russia and Iran are natural allies. They are both dictatorships, both dependent on energy sales to have their economies stay afloat, and both sworn enemies of the United States. And now we learn that the Russians have since the first week of the war been providing Iran with intelligence on American military bases located throughout the Gulf region. Russia is providing intelligence support to Iran in the Middle East war to “kill Americans,” the EU’s top diplomat said Thursday, calling on the U.S. to increase pressure on Moscow.
“We see that Russia is helping Iran with intelligence to target Americans, to kill Americans, and Russia is also supporting Iran now with the drones so that they can attack neighboring countries and also U.S. military bases,” Kaja Kallas said at a G7 meeting outside Paris.
“These wars are very much interlinked … If America wants the war in the Middle East to stop, Iran to stop attacking them, they should also put the pressure on Russia so that they are not able to help them in this,” she added, referring to Moscow’s Ukraine invasion.
Kallas — who is vice president of the European Commission and the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy — spoke hours after U.K. Secretary of Defense John Healey told BBC News that he sees the “hidden hand of Putin” behind Iran’s war effort….
Iran has been relying on Russia for intelligence on American military bases in Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Trump can make clear to Putin that if he continues this intelligence sharing with Tehran, inevitably leading to more casualties among Americans stationed in bases throughout the Gulf, then the United States will provide Ukraine not only with more military weaponry — support that so far includes artillery, air defense systems, and vehicles — but also with information on the placement of Russian troops, missiles, and missile launchers. That should give Putin pause, and put an end to the intelligence he’s been sharing with the Muslim fanatics in Tehran, so far without consequences.

Russia in Ukraine has been the aggressor (and I write this knowing full well that Ukraine is not the democratic paradise that Western idiots aplenty have falsely painted it to be). Ukraine for Putin was actually the first step in reconstituting the old USSR, respecting which demise Putin called the greatest tragedy of the 20th century. Russia under Putin is a dark nation in alignment with some of the worst regimes on Earth. By contrast, America is still the best damn hope for mankind. Might as well fault America and Britain for bombing Germany in WWII equally with Germany bombing Britain.

I agree there us no moral equivalence but the truth is the truth no matter how we hate it. Iran has no moral equivavence either, but missiles, guns, and bombs don’t care. Angry people or leaders will respond in kind if they have the capability. No matter how reprehensible some man might be, if you strike him, expect a response.
Let’s suppose you are Russian Orthodox and active in your religion. How would you view the West’s general un-religious, hedonistic, young liberals? Would you assign a moral equivalence to them?
I don’t like to see Russia undermining our efforts in Iran, but we did lead the way to proxy war and it would be insanely illogical to expect no likewise action. Russia only has half our population but a fully equivalent Military. It a way, it is our common reliance on MAD to draw the line that has us in this predicament. Escalation to nuclear war kills us all, so both sides poke around to cause each other problems, generally, when we are fighting 3rd parties.

I agree w/ you. While there ain’t a moral equivalence, there is a diplomatic/international equivalence. The Kremlin can legitimately claim that just as Western powers are supporting Ukraine in its war on Russia, that they are backing the islamic regime in its war against the US/Israel
It is stupid in the long term, given that once there’s a secular democratic government in Iran, that government may no longer be willing to be Russia’s corridor to the Indian Ocean. Cutting them off from India, Vietnam and South Africa

Which is good news, and could even dry up the supply of Iranian drones to Russia. Although I read other news that the Russians insourced the manufacturing of those drones due to a lot of Iranian defects
Honestly, what the Kremlin is doing is beyond stupid. Once the Iranian regime falls, if Pahlavi comes to power, then it’s unlikely that the new Iran will agree to be a Russian corridor to the Indian Ocean unless they do things like ending the Ukraine war
